Victoria Jackson Joins ‘Buffman and Wrench’ Salute to U.S. Troops

October 6, 2008

Maybe it’s because we never forgave the fabulous Victoria Jackson – one of our all-time favorite Saturday Night Live players – for dropping out of sight in the 90s that we’re so thrilled to be welcoming her to BlogTalkRadio.

Actually, that is the reason.

Vintage Victoria, with Tom you-know-who.

Vintage Victoria, with Tom you-know-who.

So here’s the deal: Victoria will be appearing on The Buffman and Wrench Show this evening at 9 p.m. ET for a special “Celebrate Our Freedom” edition of the ever- popular podcast.

The special will tip its hat to all the American men and women in uniform who have been struggling to keep the world safe from terrorism.

And Victoria could not be more outspoken on this front. Recently on her website she posted this message:

Thank you President George W. Bush (along with God above) for keeping us safe these last 7 years, from terrorist attacks on our homeland.  I really appreciate it very much.  xxoo You did a Great job!

And, Thank you God above for giving us George W. Bush, and for giving us John McCain and Sarah Palin.

So if you call yourself an American, you will tune in tonight for Victoria’s victory cry.

Music Royalties and the Future of Online Webcasting

October 6, 2008

Here’s an event no BlogTalkRadio host - or anyone interested in webcasting - should miss.

The Webcaster Settlement Act was introduced to allow webcasters to continue to negotiate new royalty agreements with copyright owners for the years 2006-2015. Written and submitted to the House and Senate for approval, it passed and now goes on to President Bush for ratification.

What do industry leaders and analysts have to say on the issue and what does this mean for online radio?

Join us on October 6 at NOON Eastern (9AM PST) for an interactive panel discussion where you’ll hear perspectives on the issue from:

• Tim Westergren, Chief Strategy Officer and Founder of Pandora
• Kurt Hanson, CEO of AccuRadio
• Alan Levy, CEO, BlogTalkRadio
• David Oxenford, Partner, Davis Wright Tremaine, LLP

The discussion will be moderated by Tom Webster, Vice President of Strategy and Marketing for Edison Media Research. Listeners can call in LIVE during the event at (347)205-9090, or submit questions before the event to Webster. The event will be streamed/archived at Edison Research and BlogTalkRadio.

OK, maybe not improved – but we do have an adorable new graphic, which has been popped in below for your ogling pleasure.

The Daily Mix

We also have an ever more fascin- ating array of moments from our unmatched mix of social-radio programming.

—How The Godfather star Talia Shire felt about getting beaten by her screen hubby – while her brother, Francis Ford Coppola, looked on.

“Is it narcissism?” he asks about his fans’ obsession with the HBO hit.

“Is it narcissism?” Jordan asks about fans’ obsession with his HBO series.

—Which fabulous full-figured lady took top honors on BlogTalkRadio/PLUS Model Magazine’s first annual Top 12 Curvy Entertainers list.

—Does Maryline Blackburn, Miss Alaska 1984 – who beat out Sarah Palin for the crown – think the GOP vice presidential candidate is fit for the second-highest office in the land?

—How Entourage star Jordan Belfi’s real-life agents feel about the hunky actor’s portrayal of their cutthroat profession.

So don’t miss The Mix, hosted by everyone’s favorite pod jockey, Shaun Daily, tonight – and every Monday – at 9 p.m. ET!

‘American Beauty’ Babe to Grace BlogTalkRadio

October 6, 2008

It’s been nearly a decade since American Beauty bowed at the Cineplex, but if you think we’ve forgotten this chilling tale of suburban angst, you’re dead wrong.

Still emblazoned in our minds is the image of a then-17-year-old Thora Birch grappling with screen dad Kevin Spacey’s infatuation with her classmate, Mena Suvari.

Thora

Thora Birch: Back on the big screen.

You can imagine, then, how thrilled we are to be welcoming Thora to BlogTalkRadio.

Today at 2 p.m. ET, the now-26-year-old actress drops in on REEL Ladies to chat about her upcoming flicks – like Deadline, in which she stars opposite Brittany Murphy – after a two-year absence from the silver screen.

So if some pressing matter arises between 2 and 3 p.m. today and you think we’re going tear ourselves away from our PC to attend to it, you are, once again, dead wrong.
