Blog Action Day: How You Can Participate

October 13, 2008

As we posted earlier, BlogTalkRadio is taking part in an historic Blog Action Day event, a 12 hour talkathon for poverty. Lots of people are asking how they can help or participate in Blog Action Day events.  Here are a few things you can do:

  • Blog about Blog Action Day. Even if you don’t have poverty-related experiences to share or facts to relay, you can still link to participating blogs, point everyone to our talkathon or the Blog Action Day website, post our BlogTalkRadio Blog Action Day talkathon player on your website or just talk about the coolness of the day.
  • Tweet out Blog Action day updates on Twitter. The hash tag for the event is #bad08. Memorize it. Embrace it. Use it.
  • Talk about what’s going on. Discuss poverty and Blog Action Day on your favorite forums and social networks.
  • Visit participating blogs and offer your support in the comments section.
  • Donate to a worthy charity.
  • Listen to our talkathon, take part in the chat or call in to say hello on October 15!

To give you some incentive, we’re awarding prizes to random Blog Action Day bloggers. If you hear us mention your blog on the air, you have an hour to call in and win a prize.

What are these prizes we speak of? How about high-end beauty-product swag bags courtesy of Beauty Fix, or Jewelry from the Leakey Collection? And what blogger wouldn’t be interested in receiving a 30-minute consulting session from Chris Brogan, or a copy of Liz Strauss‘ or Chris Garrett’s latest ebook? Performancing is even donating $100 to one lucky winner’s charity of choice. That’s just the tip of the ice berg! Thanks to generous sponsors, there will be prizes offered all day.

How are you participating?

Their victories (decided by listeners voting via mobile-text message and an online poll) were announced today by FOX News Radio anchor Spencer Hughes on Fox Across America, which hosted the historic debate series.

But the war of words isn’t over yet.

Beginning Monday, October 20, David and Kevin will join Spencer in co-host- ing an entire week of Election 2008 shows on FOX News Radio, from 8 to 9 a.m. ET.   Stay tuned for details on that special series.

Because we’ve teamed up with BlogActionDay.org to help take its poverty-relief conversation to all four corners of the earth.

Beginning at 12 p.m. ET, we’re broadcasting a 12-hour Talkathon for Poverty Relief that promises to make history.

Anchored live from Denver by Easton Ellsworth, U.S. director for Blog Action Day, the special will be co-hosted by BlogTalkRadio’s Eric Olsen and Shaun Daily of BlogTalkRadio Today, Dawn Olsen of Glosslip Radio, Tom D’Antoni and Art Levine of D’Antoni and Levine, Reuben Torres of Let’s Get Real, Charles Mattocks of The Poor Chef, Gregory Turner and Brian Henderson of ASE Motivation, Doctor Mo of The Danger Zone Show, and Barbara Howard of The Recipe Box from throughout the U.S.

Leading bloggers – including Paul Chaney, president of the International Blogger and New Media Association, Liz Strauss, founder of SOBCon (Biz School for Blogging), Chris Garrett, co-author of ProBlogger: Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income, and social-media guru Beth Kanter – are scheduled to appear as guests on the United Nations Millennium Campaign-supported program, along with notables from the political, entertainment and literary arenas.

Blog Action Day was launched last year when two bloggers – Collis Ta’eed of Sydney, Australia, and Leo Babauta of Guam – asked, “What would happen if all the bloggers of the world united for a single cause?”

What did happen during the U.N.-backed Blog Action Day 2007: The Environment was more than 20,000 bloggers offering ways solve help solve hundreds of environmental crises.

BlogActionDay.org estimates that some 10.6 million-plus people worldwide will read about the event on October 15 – many of whom are also expected to tune into and/or call into the talkathon.

During the talkathon, the Blog Action Day editorial team will select the best participating blogs from around the globe to be cited live on-air. Those bloggers whose work is read will have one hour to call into the talkathon to claim prizes donated by event sponsors.

Bloggers who wish to participate in Blog Action Day 2008 can register for free at http://blogactionday.org.

October 13, 2008

That’s right.  We said “friggin’.”

And if you think we’re gonna to apologize, you would be correct.

We apologize for not saying “#@%^$! awsome!”

But several guests on tonight’s uncensored edition of The Daily Mix need make no such apology. They let the obscenities fly like nobody’s business.

—Why former WWE champ Rob Van Dam – BlogTalkRadio’s newest celebrity host – believes the “F” word can be an endearing term used to address beloved fans.

‘Dam’ good show!

Rob: ‘Dam’ good show!

—What heartwarming on-air surprise led Verbal Assault host Morgan Neal’s pal to exclaim, “Oh, #@^%!”

—How is it, according to one caller on DJ RJ’s post-presidential debate special, that “your mama looks at you” when “you know you #@^%-ed up.”

—Which BlogTalkRadio hosts were left standing in FOX News Radio’s Battle of the Blog Talkers last week.

—Why Marisa Tomei tells Joe Pesci, “I’m tired of this $#*@. A lotta guys want me. I could get a lotta stuff.”

So don’t miss The Mix, hosted by everyone’s favorite pod jockey, Shaun Daily, tonight – and every Monday – at 9 p.m. ET!
