Latin hunk or no Latin hunk, Andy Garcia doesn’t like being asked to bare his pecs—at least not before being cast.
Interviewed today at 1pm ET on Milling About, the Oceans Eleven (and Twelve and Thirteen) star recalls an incident early in his career that soured him on, ah, curious casting directors.
When host Robin Milling inquires about Andy’s all-time worst audition, he says:
“They asked me to take my shirt off and I said, ‘You first.’ And then I walked out.
“I don’t think that person is in the business anymore. It was for one of those silly television shows where they say, ‘We’re looking for someone who’s really well-built. Will you take your shirt off?’” continues Andy, now 53, whose new flick (a comedy!), City Island, co-stars Julianna Margulies and Alan Arkin.
“She kind of looked at me like ‘How dare you say that to me? I’m the casting director!’
“It didn’t go much further than that. I never took my shirt off—nor did I get the part.”
Andy also discusses longtime pal Jeff Bridges, who earlier this month won an Oscar for his role as an aging country-music star in Crazy Heart—and their hopes for cutting an album together.
