‘Days of Our Lives’ Detective Gibson: Beware of Scam Showbiz Sites

Pssst, wanna part in the next Twilight installment? How about Pirates of the Caribbean IV?

Or maybe you’re a dead ringer for Jack Nicholson—or at least close enough to double for him on the set of his new flick, How Do You Know, co-starring Reese Witherspoon.

CAPTION: The showbiz doctor is in: "I know people inside the industry," Alan (above) tells us vis-à-vis his sources. "I do a lot of research to get the correct information out there. I get casting directors that give me notices."

The doctor is in: "I know people inside the industry," Alan tells us vis-à-vis his sources. "Casting directors give me notices."

If so, you’ll want to surf on over to Acting411, a showbiz website run by actor Alan Baltes.

Over the past 24 years, Alan has done guest turns on TV shows ranging from Baywatch to Cagney & Lacey to The Golden Girls. He also had a 15-year run on Days of Our Lives, playing Detective Gibson.

So it’s a good bet that he knows a thing or two about scoring screen roles.

Interviewed on the Mike Martin Show, Alan—whose high school classmates included Eric Stoltz, Anthony Edwards and Kathy Ireland—discusses his reasons for launching Acting411, which offers inside scoop on casting calls.

“When I started out acting, there weren’t a lot of resources out there. First of all—and I’m getting up there, in my 40s—there was no Internet,” he tells host Mike Martin.

“But when the Internet did start up, it still took a long time to get good resources. And today, there’s limitless scam websites out there.

“They take information from websites like mine, charge people and then make false claims,” continues Alan, who specializes in info about teen acting roles, such as those in this spring’s  Hannah Montana: The Movie and last year’s High School Musical 3: Senior Year.

“I don’t like that, I’ve been taken before in the past by companies. So I just try to get good information out there that is free and as accurate as possible.”
