FilmGordon Radio talks to Captain Phillips’ Barkhad Abdi

Wilson Morales of FilmGordon Radio talks to Barkhad Abdi of the new movie Captain Phillips. In a critically acclaimed performance, Abdi plays Abduwali Abdukhadir Muse, leader of the group of Somali pirates that hijack the merchant vessel helmed by the titular captain.

Abdi tells the story of how he, an unknown, landed his major role, auditioning after seeing an ad for a casting call. He praises the work of star Tom Hanks, who he claims influenced his own performance.

Morales and Abdi also discuss whether Abdi’s character can be said to be a truly bad person or an unfortunate victim of circumstance.
