If you’re planning to get hitched anytime soon, read on. (If you’re not planning to get hitched, call your significant other pronto, say, “Honey, we’ve got to get hitched soon,” then read on.)
Because this week’s Blurb! Book of the week winner, as selected by Blurb! hosts Sally Shields and Dr. Kent, has got a how-to guide you won’t want to miss.
That would be the Do It Yourself Wedding Flower Guide by Angie Zimmerman.
A one-time corporate drone who left that dreaded life behind in 1991 to open her own flower shop, Heavenly Flowers and Events, Angie now produces floral arrangements for some 50 weddings a year.
But when the economy began souring two years ago, the Sacramento, Calif., resident noticed the wedding industry suffering too.
“Many brides and families were holding back on their budgets, leaving things they wanted out of their weddings because they just couldn’t afford it all,” she says.
“I was also finding that a big percentage of brides wanted to do their own wedding flowers.”
So Angie got busy not only writing the Do It Yourself Wedding Flower Guide, but producing a five-part DVD companion series. As its title indicates, the Guide features simple, step-by-step instructions on “how to make every kind of bridal-bouquet design you’ll need for your wedding.”
Each week, Sally and Dr. Kent review not books but prerecorded pitches from five writers in one genre whose literary works are hot off the presses.
And each scribe gets a mere three minutes to convince our resident critics that theirs is the book worth cracking. But if they succeed, they capture the coveted Book of the Week title.
That means Sally and Dr. Kent post it prominently on the Blurb! website, just as they did with Angie’s book.
To top it all off, the winning author gets a guest spot on the show, during which to pitch his or her book live to listeners worldwide, just as Angie will appear on today’s show at 12:30 p.m. ET.
