Chelsea Krost talks to Hilary Farr, home designer and host of HGTV’s Love It or List It, a reality show that follows homeowning families’ decisions between keeping a newly-renovated house or selling it and buying a new one.
They talk about Farr’s history as a designer, saying that she “always had a knack” for interior design, but never fell into it professionally until she had “gone through several different careers.” Farr also discusses the stresses of being on the show, trying to empathize with contestants on the show, saying that “I’m ripping their house apart, I’m giving them really crappy news, and there’s a camera in their face,” and trying to keep such things in mind while hoping that the contestants enjoy her work.
Farr admits that she occasionally “take[s] it personally” when a contestant chooses to list the house that she remodeled, but only “for about two seconds. Then I’m over it.”
