Cinema Royale reviews The Counselor and All Is Lost

Travis Hopson of Cinema Royale is joined by Tim Gordon to discuss the new movie The Counselor, directed by Ridley Scott and written by celebrated author Cormac McCarthy. The movie stars Michael Fassbender, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Brad Pitt, and Javier Bardem. Of the “bleak, very violent” movie, Hopson says that very few of the characters are redeemable, save for Penelope Cruz’s. Gordon says that the movie will prove divisive; those who see it will either love it or hate it. They agree that the movie, as a whole, is “over-the-top.”

Also discussed is All Is Lost, a survival drama starring Robert Redford, its only cast member, as a survivor of a shipwreck struggling to survive at sea. Hopson compares the film to Gravity and recommends it.
