Fans of E. L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey will have to wait until August 2014 for its upcoming film adaptation, but can enjoy the books in a different, more unconventional medium when two wines based on the series hit shelves in November. NorthWest Prime‘s Lori Ness reviews the wine with Fifty Shades fandom blogger Crissy.
Author E. L. James actually had a hand in creating the wine, rather than simply licensing it, and Lori herself is a trained sommelier. Of the “White Silk” white blend, the hosts note its high alcohol content and sweetness, comparing it to a New Zealand sauvignon blanc. They recommend drinking it with spicy food.
Of the “Red Satin” red blend, they find notes of cherry and clove, finding it full-bodied and smooth and recommending a pairing with lamb and strong cheeses.
