ScreenPicks reviews six new movies this week, including the new adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s classic sci-fi novel Ender’s Game and Last Vegas, starring Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, and Morgan Freeman. Host Phil Wallace leads the discussion with contributors Kit Bowen, Bronwen Winter Phoenix, and Jorge Vargas. Phoenix calls Ender’s Game “visually engaging” but Bowen found it “kind of flat.” Vargas agrees, finding it “less powerful” than the novel.
Hiko Mitsuzuka joins the group to discuss Last Vegas, which he found enjoyable but warns that it should not be confused as “a Hangover for the AARP set.” Bowen agrees, finding it “sweet,” if sometimes overly so, but appreciated how the actors seemed to enjoy their roles.
Also discussed are Dallas Buyers Club, About Time, The Broken Circle Breakdown, and Big Sur.
