Betty Jo Tucker of Movie Addict Headquarters talks to Tim Phillips and Jan Creamer, the respective director and writer of Lion Ark. Lion Ark, winner of the San Diego Film Festival’s Best Documentary award, details the rescue of 25 abused African lions. The rescue was carried out by Animal Defenders International, an organization headed by Creamer and Phillips themselves.
Phillips and Creamer talk about the process of the rescue, which was evidently very stressful, saying that “this was a real frontline rescue… we had people threatening us, we had people waving knives at us.” They also discuss the format of the documentary, which details the rescue as it’s happening, saying that “there’s no cutting back… you get those same feelings as they’re happening at the time.
