Don King: ‘Obama’s Time Is America’s Time!’

Even by his own standards of grandiosity, Don King is pretty pumped these days.

After all, not only did he live to see the first African-American sworn in as our nation’s commander-in-chief, but he’s still out doing what he does best in this “new era of change.”

“We got Obama reaching out, so let’s help him reach out and touch someone,” Don (above, at the president’s January 20 inauguration) tells us.

“Obama's reaching out, so let’s help him reach out and touch someone,” Don (above, at the president’s January 20 inauguration) tells us.

That, of course, would be pro- moting fights – namely the “St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.”

On Saturday, Don will be front and center at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida, as his latest protégé – lightweight champion Nate “Galaxxy Warrior” Campbell squares off against contender Ali “Rush Hour” Funeka.

And tonight at 10 p.m. ET, Don appears on Live from the MIA to tell host Lorenzo Thomas why this fight means more to him than any fight he has promoted since 1974 – when he burst onto the boxing scene with “The Rumble in the Jungle” – the first in a series of three match-ups between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman.v-day-don-king-event1

“I feel wonderful because Amer- ica is coming of age. America was pregnant and she gave birth on January 20 to a baby named Hope Change Freedom,” says Don.

“And for those who have fallen in the struggle, fighting for, march- ing for and praying for freedom and equality – John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King – all these are fallen soldiers, but not forgotten.

“We got to rise to the occasion to bring America to its true fruition to fulfill its prophecy. One man, under god, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

“Omaba’s time is America’s time!”
