SoundBits: Jo Ann Kubasek Lets YOU Dish with the Stars (Despite Regrets from Nathan Fillion)

Just how devoted are Jo Ann Kubasek’s celebrity guests to the Stardish Radio host? Consider this anecdote: A few months back, Seamus Dever, who plays Detective Kevin Ryan on the hit ABC series Castle, was scheduled to appear on Jo Ann’s show. But shortly before the interview, the actor was unexpectedly called to the set, and had to cancel. To ensure he remained in her best graces, however, Seamus promptly enlisted the help of co-star Nathan Fillion, who plays title character Richard Castlea bestselling mystery writer. And what, pray tell, did Nathan do for Seamus? Why pen the following excuse, of course: “Stardish, We regret to inform you that Seamus cannot attend his interview.” If that doesn’t convince you of Jo Ann’s commitment to reeling in top-notch guests week in, week out, then read on. For the Buffalo, N.Y., residentwhose bookings have included Twilight’s Taylor Lautner, True Blood‘s William Sanderson, The Vampire Diaries‘ Katerina Graham and Jasmine Guy, General Hospital‘s Tyler Christopher, Glee‘s Brooke Newton and Heroes‘ Greg Grunbergmakes it abundantly clear that she’s in the star-dishing game for the long haul…

Jo Ann: Daytime—and prime-time—drama queen.

Jo Ann: Daytime-drama queen. (And prime-time, too!)

Give us a 15-second pitch for your show—why should listeners tune in?

Stardish is a true labor of love for me. My goal is to make it the premier online destination for actors, musicians and artists of any stripe to come and chat. This is a way for fans to get to know their favorite stars in a whole new light. There truly is no other opportunity such like this. It’s fantastic having celebrities—live on my show—wish their fans a happy birthday, or just say hello and thanks for the support.

Tell us two things listeners would be surprised to learn about you?

That’s a hard one, because I’m pretty much an open book on the show, and I’ve been fortunate enough to make friends with many of my listeners, so they know me pretty well. But let’s see… Well, I snore. And I’m very unorganizedso much to that I have attention deficit disorder.

Who’s your broadcasting hero?

I don’t look at myself as a broadcaster, and, truthfully, the only radio I listen to is either BTR or when I’m driving in the car. The people I look up to are more along the lines of talk show hosts, which is what I consider myself. And my all-time favorite host is, hands down, Regis Philbin. He has done it all, and always seems to be having fun. But he can be serious, too. All of which makes him a legend.

CAPTION: Seamus (left) beams with pride as co-star Nathan flashes the excusing missive.

If you could book any person on earth as a guest on your show, who would it be and why?

If I had to choose only one, it would have to be Regis. I bet he has amazing stories to tell. Ellen DeGeneres would be my second choice, and Jay Leno would be third. (Just sayin’.)

As we speak, what are you wearing?

A blue tank top and jeans, with flip-flops.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever done while in the middle of hosting your show?

The wonderful thing about Stardish is that it has that feel of being on the phone with an old friend. So I do what I’d normally do when I’m on the phone, including loading my dishwasher, doing my laundry, making cookies, taking a pee break. I could go on, but I won’t!

I’m a broadcasting major currently in school. Jo Ann is so refreshing and inspiring. She makes you feel that you are meeting them, and totally talking to them face-to-face. Her style is like no other I’ve ever seen before ,and I think that’s what sets her apart from the rest of blogtalk hosts. She has an amazing heart and is always looking for ways to make others happy. There is no one else like her. She’s a one of a kind!
    :D

Joann, you are my Lucy on Facebook each day…through and through. And although I work the hours that almost always interfere with my catching your live shows, I have the comfort of my laptop to catch up on some shows here and there. Plain and simple, you are just fun. And oh how I love that you are doing the same things I do when I’m on a long phone call. “The dishes are done man!” Love ya girl!

Joann is an inspiration to us all, she is charamastic, witty, down to earth, and is such a natural at what she does. She has created a show that invites fans over to spend one on one time with their favorite actors and musicians. No one does it better than The Queen of Dish!!
