Host Jon Hansen: Master of Social Media Has Tricky Dick’s Kids in His Sights

Jon Hansen’s enthusiasm for BlogTalkRadio is, it seems safe to say, unrivaled among his fellow hosts. After all, he wrote the book (or at least a book) on the platform, titled Your Show Will Go Live in 5 Seconds. When not expounding on social media, the logistics and management guru, who formerly served as President of e-Procure Solutions Corp., can be found at his home in Gatineau, Canada, just across the Ottawa River from Ottawa, hosting PI Window on Business. There, he tackles such timely topics as Can the Health Care Industry Be Trusted? Unfriendly Skies: How Safe Is Air Travel? and Protecting Your Electronic Image. On that note, please welcome this week’s SoundBits subject, aka the hardest working man in north of Buffalo, Mr. Jon Hansen…soundbits-wordpress11Give us a 15-second pitch for your show-why should listeners tune in?

Engaging, thought-provoking, informative and entertaining, we tackle the hottest and most controversial topics of the day, with guests who include bestselling authors, global experts and leading political figures.

What’s the No. 1 reason why you host a BlogTalkRadio show?

As part of an overall social media strategy, BlogTalkRadio is a key medium for The PI Social Media Network, as it enables us to reach an expanded audience with stories that deliver real insights and tangible value to our listeners.

Tell us two things listeners would be surprised to learn about you?

(1) Prior to Blog Talk Radio, the only thing I had ever hosted was the occasional dinner party. (2) I still get butterflies (although good butterflies, mind you) whenever I hear the words “Your Continue reading

Give us a 15-second pitch for your show—why should listeners tune in?

Lykken on Lending is the only show of its kind, that’s created and produced by mortgage professionals for mortgage professionals (or those aspiring to be mortgage professionals), while also covering the latest hot topics in the mortgage and real-estate finance industry. The best part is that you can either listen live, or download the program and listen whenever it’s convenient to your schedule. Those outside of the mortgage industry may want to listen for ideas on how to gain creditability and reach into almost any vertical business-to-business market by hosting a similar program. I’m always willing to share ideas and consult with aspiring radio hosts considering launching a show here on BTR.

David: Hold the Folgers (though don't skip the Skippy).

Tell us something listeners would be surprised to learn about you?

Even though I’ve been in real estate finance for 37 years, I recently rediscovered a desire that I’ve had since I was a kid-to be a talk show host. Now it seems as if I’ve finally stepped into my destiny. I’ve always said, “If you find your purpose, you’ll always find provision.” I’m grateful to BTR founder Alan Levy  for creating BTR and to all those at BTR working hard to make this a success. Folks like Philip Recchia, who are giving me an opportunity to rediscover and develop my broadcasting skills.

‘Power Selling Mom’ Host Danna Crawford: Humongous Fan of eBay (and Griff Too!)

“I will not promise to make you millions, but I will show you ways to get your bills paid!” So proclaims Danna Crawford, host of Power Selling Mom, which each week features interviews with successful eBay sellers and staffers. And Danna—as CEO of PowerSellingMom, Inc. and founder of VirtualOnlineLearning.com—does indeed provide regular money-making tools, tips and tactics that help listeners to her show (which recently celebrated its three-year anniversary on BlogTalkRadio) get the most out of the world’s largest online auction and shopping site. The Ocala, Fla., resident is so adept at her self-styled career, in fact, that she’s been able to work from home since 1997. That in turn has meant being available to her kids 24/7, while never missing any of their school or social events. So if any of Danna’s success sounds intriguing to you, don’t touch that mouse because our SoundBits subject of the week is coming up live in four… three… two…

eBay is the world’s largest online marketplace, but it has so much more to offer than just buying or selling. My show focuses on the eBay community, serving as a place where buyers and sellers unite-and lurkers begin to learn. I’ve also incorporated blogging into the show’s regular features, as well as effective use of all the social-networking sites. These are key factors in marketing on eBay, or any online business. And BlogTalkRadio has become an essential part of my Virtual Online Learning classroom!

Tell us two things listeners would be surprised to learn about you.

I don’t color my hair. And I don’t get paid to talk about eBay! I’m just extremely thankful that eBay has given me an opportunity and provided a path for me to have my own business since 1997. A lot of people think I get paid to talk about eBay. But I promote the site because I truly love it, and I love to share my knowledge with others so they too might have similar experiences. My motto is: There is plenty of eBay for us all to be blessed and prosper!

‘Diva Toolbox’ Host Janet Powers Lays Out Benefits of Internet Radio in More Magazine

more-magazine-11-12-10-aIf you’re thinking about starting your own radio show, take a moment and peruse the current online edition of More magazine —the “leading voice of today’s sophisticated, affluent and accomplished woman.”

There you’ll find an informative feature by BlogTalkRadio’s very own Janet Powers, host of Diva Toolbox Radio.

“The biggest benefit of hosting your own Internet radio show is the opportunity to share your message with millions without expensive equipment and to connect with your target market without leaving your office,” she writes in the article headlined “Boost Your Business with Your Own Radio Show.”

“Internet talk radio is transmitted via the Internet through a computer and can be accessed globally. With most Internet radio platforms, all you need is a telephone and a computer to host your show—not much different than being on a conference call.”

Janet also offers guidelines on defining a show, covering issues like naming, branding and marketing the broadcast.

She addresses, as well, the benefits of producing shows with a platform like BlogTalkRadio. Among her pros are that “the station already has listeners and other hosts to help build audience quickly,” and that “there’s a support team and help available to answer questions and solve problems.”

Mark Zuckerberg: Why Most Facebook Users Don’t Want Their Carpenters as ‘Friends’

Facebook CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg has made socializing within your desired circles—rather than having “friends” thrust upon you—easier than ever.

Interviewed by tech blogger Robert Scoble via Cinch—BlogTalkRadio’s sister platform that makes creating and sharing audio dispatches easy—the 26-year-old billionaire chats about the release of three new Facebook features: Download Your Data, Platform Apps Dashboard and Groups.

CAPTION: "It's actually very different when people self-select and create these spaces," Mark (above) says of friend lists. "And that's the social solution we're trying to go for."

"It's actually very different when people self-select and create these spaces," Mark (above) says of friend lists. "And that's the social solution we're trying to go for."

“Download Your Data makes it so you can create and archive ZIP files of all of the stuff you’ve put on Facebook—all of your photos, videos, status updates, wall messages, profile information—so you can do whatever you want with it, and just download it all,” says Mark during the in-depth discussion.

“And that is pretty important because we, philosophically, believe that people own all that information. So they should be able to upload it and take it with them wherever they want.

“The Platform Apps Dashboard makes it so you can see how apps that you’re using are using your information. That should create more transparency around the type of info that apps are requesting and using, and should, hopefully, hold them accountable Continue reading

Oh, Snaps! Lisa Johnson Mandell Joins Janet Powers as Co-Host of ‘Work It Girl’

Lisa: New, improved—and employed!

Lisa: New, improved—and employed!

We don’t impress easily, so believe us when we say Lisa Johnson Mandell‘s networking prowess is something the likes of which has rarely been seen at BlogTalkRadio.

As an L.A.-based entertainment journalist and film critic, Lisa spent 25 year rubbing elbows with such powerhouses as Steven Spielberg, Clint Eastwood and Ben Stiller.

But in her late 40s, while searching for work, she—as she puts it herself—”found that the precious few jobs available were going to the young, nubile and unskilled.”

“So I started a personal campaign to give myself a career makeover,” she says.

“I ‘Botoxed’ my resume, rejuvenated my image and Continue reading

Al Reynolds: Star Jones and I Don’t Talk Right Now (but She Loves My Mom!)

More than two years after she gave him the old heave-ho, Star Jones still isn’t speaking to Al Reynolds.

But that doesn’t mean she’s giving his mom the cold shoulder.

"My mother loves my ex," Al (above) tells us of Ada and Star. "They had a really special bond with one another.

"My mother loves my ex," Al (above) tells us of Ada and Star. "They had a really special bond."

Interviewed on T. Tyler Talks, Al dishes about the state of his relationship with the former View host.

“We don’t really talk right now,” he tells host Tanya Tyler of Star, who divorced him in 2008 after four years of marriage.

“It’s interesting because my mother [Ada] had a heart attack a couple of weeks ago, so Star called my mother.

“It was really kinda cool to have your main lady and your wife getting along. Kinda feels good as a man, a husband and a son. But not right now—we don’t communicate,” he continues, before adding that he expects the frost to thaw Continue reading
