Murphy Brown may be a fictional character, but she and the actor who immortalized her on the CBS sitcom of the same name share an affinity for at least one musical icon.
Chatting on The wOw Effect, her wowOwow Talk show here on BlogTalkRadio, five-time Emmy winner Candice Bergen reveals which tune has been putting her in a frisky mood.
“The name of the song that’s been rocking my world, so to speak, lately is Respect, by The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin —who I justintroduced at an event last night,” Candice tells fellow Woman on the Web Julia Reed in a Sirens’ Songs edition of their show, featuring five-time Grammy-winning country music diva Mary Chapin Carpenter, whose latest release is titled The Age of Miracles.
“And she sang Respect, which has been a great classic—and was a big Murphy Brown favorite in the years gone by.
“Aretha looked spectacular. Of course she’s huge—she was wearing a white strapless dress, with a seven-foot white-plumed train, and she is just something else.
“And she sang Respect, and it’s just been a favorite of mine and always will be for, I suppose, obvious reasons,” adds Candice of Aretha, with whom she once sang (You Make Me Feel) Like a Natural Woman on Murhpy Brown.
“She’s not The Queen for nothing.”
