Patricia Richardson: Tim Allen Gets Dissed by Tinseltown (Unlike Jerry Seinfeld)

Though Patricia Richardson has never been married to Tim Allen in real life, she’s standing by her man just the same.

Interviewed on Buzzworthy Radio, the actress who played Tim’s wife, Jill Taylor, on the ABC sitcom Home Improvement holds little back in her defense of the funnyman.

“He’s always underrated as an actor. He was so really just reactive and real emotional and really there,” Patricia tells host NaVell Lee.

“I always kind of feel Hollywood disses him… When he first started, it was really new for him and he was a little bit scared about it. He would just start to cry. We’d be doing a scene that was real serious and he wouldn’t know-he’d be surprised himself.”

“We’d be rehearsing and he would stop the scene because he had this emotional reaction and he’d turn to [director] John Pasquin—‘Wait a minute, wait a minute.’”

“I always kind of resented that Hollywood would so… I don’t know why, but they were just so unwilling to acknowledge.

“I mean, Jerry Seinfeld—as great as he was as a standup and awesome as he was as a standup—was not an actor, you know, never an actor.

“And Tim really was an actor but was never really acknowledged for that.”

“He only got one Emmy nomination because [then Disney CEO] Michael Eisner kind of blew it for him that one year they totally forgot to get his nomination in on time.

“Michael Eisner insisted on doing this big thing, of having this sort of parade or something to put the nomination in the mail to make sure it got in the mail, blah, blah, blah. That was such a mistake because it just made an even bigger deal of something that was already a mistake.

Tim never got nominated again, I think largely because of that whole thing.”
