SoundBits: Mutha Knows Best

For those of you who’ve yet to sample Mutha Knows, be warned that the show is highly addictive. Moments after we first tuned in, host Mutha’s voice was emblazoned in our mind forever, which is not at all a bad thing. Couple that inimitable timbre with Mutha’s smokin’-hot lineup of musical guests – from Montell Jordan to Stephanie Mills to Lisa-Lisa to Teena Marie – and you’ve got a winning combination from the man who makes his home in Philadelphia. Or should we say, The City of Bruthaly Love?

Give us a 15-second pitch for your show – why should listeners tune in?

The Mutha Knows show is crazy, informative and a guilty musical pleasure. We specialize in the best R&B. And, of course, you never know what celebrity will drop by to hang with Mutha.

Mutha: Say "cheesesteak."

Mutha: Say "cheesesteak."

Tell us two things listen- ers would be surprised to learn about you?

I’m very quiet and I love peace.

Who’s your broadcasting hero?

NYC DJ Wendy Williams – who’s also host of the nationally-syndicated Wendy Williams TV show – and Tashara Jones, another NYC DJ, who most recently authored Have You Met Miss Jones? The Life and Loves of Radio’s Most Controversial Diva.

If you could book any person on earth as a guest on your show, who would it be and why?

Oprah Winfrey and Mary J.Blige, two huge names who’d be firsts for my show, and for BlogTalkRadio. I have tremendous respect for both ladies.

As we speak, what are you wearing?

A T-shirt, blue jeans and slippers.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever done while in the middle of hosting your show?

I once took the show out with me and stopped at a 7-Eleven, where I had the cashier give me a “Mutha knows” shout-out. He spoke perfect Arabic – but terrible English – so it was hilarious.

When I first came to this show it wasnt even a guset on the show! I was drawn in by the energy that Mutha carries! Mutha encourages me to do better with my show and never let anything get in your way of greatness.

My favorite convo with Mutha is

Random Person: So how do you get these guests on your show?

Mutha: Through hard work and God

Real Talk that’s what its all about, cuz that same principle works for me.

Thank you Mutha for being apart of my extended family and continued blessings to you.
