SoundBits: Mr. Media, Uncensored (and Hopped up on Dr. Pepper)

In this week’s edition of SoundBits, our weekly feature that spotlights compelling BlogTalkRadio talent, we sit down with Bob Andelman. For more than 20 years, the Mr. Media Interviews host, who hails from St. Petersburg, Fla., has been living up to his moniker. The notable figures he has captured on tape in recent months alone include Kirk Douglas, Billy Bob Thornton and Ally Sheedy. But now it’s Bob’s turn to answer our burning questions.

That’s Mr. Media MAVEN to you.

BlogTalkRadio's own Bob Andelman: That’s Mr. Media MAVEN to you.

Give us a 15-second pitch for your BlogTalkRadio show – why should listeners tune in?

Mr. Media Interviews is all about celebrities and media news- makers making conversation, having a few laughs (usually at my expense) and promoting their latest projects. If it’s not fun, it’s usually over quickly.

Tell us two things listeners would be surprised to learn about you?

I coach girl’s soccer at my daughter’s middle school. And I almost always drink Dr. Pepper during my show.

Who’s your broadcasting hero?

There’s no single person. When I was a teen in the ’70s, I listened to Cousin Brucie on WABC 77 AM and Wolfman Jack on WNBC 66 AM, both in New York. Today, I can’t get through the day without a few minutes of Howard Stern on Sirius.

If you could book any person on earth as a guest on your show, who would it be and why?

My late grandfather, Sam Kaplan. We had so little time together and I’ve got so many, many things I’d like to discuss with him.

As we speak, what are you wearing?

My new Florida Gators sweatshirt.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever done while in the middle of hosting your show?

I interviewed raunchy comedian Lisa Lampanelli while on a break at a religious planners conference that I was covering on assignment for a magazine. The people around me could only hear my end of the con- versation, which was uncharacteristically subdued. Lisa, on the other hand, was letting loose four- and twelve-letter curse words like she was handing out candy at Halloween. The dichotomy was pretty funny.
