If you’re ever in need of a daytime-drama guru, or a primetime-drama guru—or a movie or music or, really, any kind of entertainment guru— NaVell Lee is your man. And as creator of Buzzworthy Radio, he never fails to do that title proud. Be it The Bachelor‘s Chris Harrison, The Young and the Restless‘ Christel Khalil, As the World Turns‘ Judi Evans, The Vampire Diaries‘ Michael Trevino or Access Hollywood‘s Shaun Robinson, virtually every celeb who drops in on NaVell can be assured that our host possesses unparalleled, up-to-the-minute knowledge of the career at hand. But to those who know him, that will come as no surprise. For the Penns Grove, N.J., resident is also a veteran entertainer himself, who currently stars as Emmett Spector on the long-running online radio soap Scripts & Scruples, and has previously appeared in stage productions of The Music Man and South Pacific. Now let’s get this enchanted evening started…
Give us a 15-second pitch for your show—why should listeners tune in?
If, like countless fans, you never get to see your favorite stars up close and personal, be sure to check out Buzzworthy Radio— where we regularly bring you in-depth interviews with those very same celebs.
Tell us two things listeners would be surprised to learn about you?
Radio was not my first love. I never wanted to get into the entertainment business until someone said I had a voice for this medium. So I tried it out, and fell in love with hosting. Go figure, eh? Also, I’m a shy person—or at least I used to be. Radio has managed to draw me out of my shell big-time.
Who’s your broadcasting hero?
Preston Elliot and Steve Morrison, who host Preston and Steve, a morning radio show on WMMR-FM here in the Philadelphia market. If I could even come close to being how entertaining they are on the air, I’d die a happy man. I only wish I had their sense of humor. (And their money, too!)
If you could book any person on earth as a guest on your show, who would it be and why?
Johnny Depp, for sure. He’s probably the best actor on the face of the earth. Not just that, but he’s also the most genuine person. He cares about the genre he works in, as well as about his fans. That’s class!
As we speak, what are you wearing?
A tank top, shorts and sneakers. I don’t go all-out at home. (Ha-ha!)
What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever done while in the middle of hosting your show?
Would you call telling a guest—Crystal Chappell, who played Olivia on The Guiding Light—that she’s “delicious” strange? If so, then yea, that’s it. That or introducing a caller as being from North Hampshire instead of New Hampshire. Gotta love live radio.
