Recently the FlyLady network featured a special episode on the importance of regular eye exams for children and adults.  Dr. Justin Bazan discusses eye exams for kids. He shares how vision problems can impact learning and how regular screenings can make a difference.  He also shares how we can help children in the Boys & Girls Club of America receive free eye exams and glasses through the VSP Eye Pledge campaign.

Celebrating Ten Years of FLYing!

marla1

In today’s speed-of-light culture, it’s not very often we get to celebrate a 10th anniversary of anything, much less an enterprise that helps people make positive changes in their lives.

Enter FlyLady.  Now known the world over as a positive force in de-cluttering, managing your life, and finally loving yourself in the process.

But Marla Cilley wasn’t always the FlyLady.  Her journey to empower women (and men!) started humbly ten years ago, with an email newsletter out to a woman who asked for her helpful tips and reminders.  Then eight more friends requested her reminders, and by the end of the first year, she had 10,000 followers.

The FlyLady’s empire has grown to email reminders to over half a million followers.  She has authored bestselling fl_flylady10year books, Sink Reflections and Body Clutter.  Plus, we are proud that FlyLady’s resume includes (several) BlogTalkRadio shows, enough for an entire network, plus those of her pals, which are some of the most popular on the site.

Marla Cilley, the FlyLady, has made an impact on us at BlogTalkRadio.  Please join her 10th anniversary celebration broadcast today at 7pm ET.   Take a listen to some heartwarming testimonials from FlyBabies around the world, and call in to share moments from your personal journey with FlyLady.

Trish Suhr: Cut Your Kids’ Clutter Loose!

Do not get Trish Suhr started on the subject of keeping your grown offspring’s junk around after they’ve bid the abode adios.

But if you do, expect an amusing earful from the host of the Style Network’s Clean House.

Suhr thing: Send it packing, Trish (above) advises parents.

Interviewed on The FlyLady Show, Trish – who’s equally well-known as the Yard Sale Diva – says tough love’s the only way to handle this stickly situation.

“I get asked by a lot of parents, ‘When can I make my kids come get their stuff?’ – when they have grown children that have moved out,” she tells host Marla Cilley.

“And I’m like, ‘Honey, they have a mortgage, they can carry their stuff around. That’s the bottom line.

You don’t have to be carryin’ around that stuff. That’s crazy talk.

“They go, ‘Well, I just feel bad,’” continues the Kentucky native, 35, show also performs in the all- female comedy review, Pretty Funny Women, and has been featured in such flicks as The Quick and the Dead and Spiral.

“And I’m like, ‘Well, you just asked me. If you want me to tell you the truth, I’ve got everything that I need. My moma doesn’t carry around nothing’ of mine anymore.’

“If your kids have their own life, in the sense they have a family, you don’t need to be carryin’ around no Michael Jordan poster. Let them come get it.

“If they got their sneakers from the junior year of high school because the won a game in’em and they’re that important, then let them come get’em.”

Clean House airs Wednesdays @ 10 p.m. ET.

FlyLady: Back to School, Back to Basics

00 p.m. EDT

FlyLady - Back to School, Back to Basics today at 3:00 p.m. EDT

If you’re a stay at home or work at home parent like me, you love being home with your kids. You probably love it even more when school begins though! For many of us East Coasters, school begins Thursday and that’s not a moment too soon. The end of the summer boredom is beginning to set in and I’m running out of craft supplies! Back to school is also bittersweet, those of us who did stay home with our kids all summer are sending them away for the day – and they will be missed.

If anyone knows how we feel about back to school time, it’s the FlyLady. To celebrate – or commiserate – she’s hosting the FlyLady Back to School Special this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. EDT. The topic is “Back to School, Back to Basics.”

In case you haven’t yet tuned in to the FlyLady experience, do yourself a favor and catch it this afternoon. Call in with your questions, participate in the missions (quick tasks to make your life a little easier) and take part in the lively chat. Bet you become a regular FlyBaby!

I’ll see you there!
