The Higgs-Boson particle explained

Virtually Speaking Science talks about the Higgs-Boon particle, a.k.a. the “God” particle. They’re joined by Sean Carroll, author of The Particle at the End of the Universe. Carroll says that the particle is “absolutely crucial to understanding the standard model of particle physics,” but that it “plays a slightly different role than the other particles do.” He explains the particle as a “vibration in a Higgs field,” which “fills all of space… and affects the particles of which we are made.” Without the field, electrons “would be moving at the speed of light,” preventing atoms from forming and making “life itself” impossible.
