Yet Another Hometown Paper Profiles Our ‘NBA Breakdown’ Hosts—Who Predict 15 Million Listeners

We don’t have any sort of award for best promotional effort of the week. But if we did, Audley Stephenson and Dave Mendonca would be shoe-ins for the honor.

Two days after our NBA Breakdown hosts landed a profile in The Brampton Guardian, they scored another report in the local media, this one in The Mississauga News, which covers the Toronto suburb of (you guessed it) Mississauga.

“Dave Mendonca and Audley Stephenson are just a couple of regular guys who happen to love basketball,’ writes the paper’s Iain Colpitts. “But if you ask them, that’s what makes their Internet radio show, The NBA Breakdown, so appealing.”

The News also quotes Audley on how the show’s success sneaked up on him.

“In the beginning stages, it feels like you’re talking to yourself in a room,” he says. “You’ve got no idea who’s listening, but then you see the numbers go above 100,000 and you realize you’re not in a room by yourself anymore.”

While we’re always pleased (if rarely surprised) to read profiles of our many hard-working, talented hosts in the local media, we were extra thrilled this morning to wake up and find our NBA Breakdown hosts Audley Stephenson and Dave Mendonca plastered across the front page of their hometown paper.

In a Brampton Guardian (which covers Brampton, Ontario, and suburban Toronto) story headlined “Hoops Junkies Host NBA Show,” reporter Frank Juzenas writes:

If Kendall Barrow makes hosting his own BlogTalkRadio show look simple, that’s because, well, it is.

And his hometown paper couldn’t agree more.

In a feature this week headlined “Thanks to technological advances, a few plugs and buttons, getting yourself on the air is easier said and done every day,” the Beaumont Enterprise highlights the 21-year-old Texan’s experience hosting his twice-weekly show.

Penny Hardaway wants to make one thing perfectly clear: He’s ready, willing and able to return to the NBA—and is jonesing to play side-by-side with LeBron James.

During his monthly “Penny for Your Thoughts” segment on The Bottom Line Sports Show, the all-star BlogTalkRadio contributor announced he’s throwing his hat in the ring for a place on the Miami Heat, where, in 2007, he played his final NBA season before retiring with knee injuries.

Much as it pains him, Fat Joe says New Yorkers won’t be getting NBA superstar LeBron James any time soon.

Interviewed on H2GRadio, the rap star—who owns a street basketball team called the Terror Squad that plays in Harlem—weighs in on the chances of the New York Knicks snagging the Cleveland Cavaliers forward when his $60 million contract expires at the end the current NBA season, making him a free agent.

BlogTalkRadio Fantasy Sports Channel Wins Two FSTA Awards

ftclogoDiehard Fantasy Sports fans already know that The Fantasy Sports Channel has more LIVE fantasy sports radio than anywhere on the planet — and now you can add “award winning” to that description.

The Fantasy Sports Channel won its first industry award this week, taking home the 2010 Best Podcasting Award at the Fantasy Sports Trade Association’s Winter Conference in Las Vegas. Scott Engel of RotoExperts.com, accepted the award on behalf of FSC.

And, as if that wasn’t enough, The Fantasy Sports Channel also won the Best New Site or Site Update Award from the FSTA on Tuesday for the launch of new site update at www.fsc.fm. All this, from a site that’s been on-air for about a year and a half. It speaks volumes about the great work contributed by all of FSC when FSC is nominated for the same awards as big contenders, such as ESPN.
