In the 26 months since we began profiling hosts in this column, we’ve never run across one who sent us testimonials from celebrity guests—until now. That host is Michael Catricola, and his show, Heavy Metal Mayhem, is arguably the Internet’s leading source of news, tunes and interviews from the heavy-metal scene. And here, to cite just two, are his testimonials: “Mike is a real music guy—and I can’t believe he knows so much of my personal music history!” says Quiet Riot drummer Frankie Banali. “You and your great show are another reason why metal is still alive and getting HUUUGGGE again!” raves Rainbow bassist Craig Gruber. Now, the New York City resident (Staten Island, to be precise—and damn proud of it) knows whence he speaks. During his youth, Michael played bass for a Big Apple metal band called Stillborn. And though today he makes his living as a construction rep for Con Edison, he continues to carry the torch to metal fans around the globe. On that note, please put your hands together—and stomp up a f*&%! storm—for our SoundBits subject of the week…
Give us a 15-second pitch for your show—why should listeners tune in?
‘80′s hard rock and heavy metal is more than Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Ozzy Osbourne. There were hundreds of other bands, and this is one of the only shows to feature them all. Our motto on Heavy Metal Mayhem is, Playing the Best of All the Rest.
