It’s an Ironic Edition of ‘The Mix’

Here’s a novel theme for this week’s edition of the show that brings you the best moments from BlogTalkRadio’s unmatched mix of social-radio programming: Irony.

It was bound to happen, what with the sheer number of shows aired each week here on the world’s largest online radio network.

CAPTION: "Any time they replace a word with a tamer word that's kind of like the idiom, but not really, I'm always offended," Lisa (above) tells us of her hindquarters controversy.

"Any time they replace a word with a tamer word that's kind of like the idiom, but not really, I'm always offended," Lisa (above) tells us of her hindquarters controversy.

So we’ve rounded up a few for your listening pleasure.  You’ll learn, for instance:

-How Lisa Ann Walter, creator of the Oxygen reality series Dance Your Ass Off, proposed to soften up that title for advertisers’ trepidatious ears.

-Why actor Mark Duplass – who’s 100 percent hetero – says, “I never really thought I could connect with the thought of having sex with one of my best friends.”

-Which celebrity offspring – who’s planning to change genders – Talk It Over host Lee Jay Berman is referring to when he says, “When I went to pick her up, she was playing football with all the boys.”

-Which now-vilified financial watchdog once told CNBC Business News reporter David Faber, “What are you gonna do, pass a law to outlaw greed?”

-Why Thomas Mikal Ford, who played Tommy Strawn on Martin, was pained by his character’s mysterious source of income.

-Why Amber Benson, who had a regular role on the hit TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, recently spent the day selling merchandise in the parking lot of a San Diego theater.

So don’t miss The Mix, hosted by everyone’s favorite pod jockey, Shaun Daily, tonight – and every Monday – at 9 p.m. ET!

‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Star Amber Benson: Parking-Lot Pitchwoman!

CAPTION: "A lot of people know me as an actor, but they don't know I do other things," Amber (above) tells us.

"A lot of people know me as an actor, but they don't know I do other things," Amber (above) tells us.

You know the economy’s bad when a castmember from the hit TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer is reduced to hawking tchotchkes outside a San Diego theater.

Or maybe she’s just deeply in love.

Either way, BlogTalkRadio trumped merchandising and amour in the end.

During her PSI-FI Para-Radio interview this past Sunday, Amber Benson, who played Tara Maclay opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar‘s Buffy Summers, was chatting about her latest screen project when she slipped in an eyebrow-raising tidbit.

Drones is a film that I co-directed with Adam Bush, who’s my boyfriend, who played Warren on Buffy – who kills me,” the actress told host Donna Stewart.

“How ironic. It’s pretty weird!” she continued.

Then came this segue:copy-of-deaths-daughter1

“I’m actually in the parking lot of an Indigo Girls concert as we speak, because [Adam's] band, Common Rotation, is opening for them tonight – and I’m selling merchandise.

“I double-booked. I thought they asked me to do it on Saturday, but it was today,” added Amber, who’s also a writer – with a new book titled Death’s Daughter.

“So I was like, ‘Bye, guys! I can’t sell merchandise for the next hour. I’m going to do a radio show with these awesome ladies.”

It’s a Have-and-Have-Not Edition of ‘The Mix’

Ernest Hemingway would no doubt be proud of this week’s nod to his 1937 novel To Have and Have Not.

Or maybe not.

The point is, by using such a cheap tactic, we’ve succeeded in grabbing your attention.

And now that we have it, here’s a sampling of what’s you’ll learn on tonight’s Have-and-Have-Not edition of The Mix:

CAPTION: "By the time I got done with her," Omarosa (above) tells us, "I had the laptops, the printers and ink for a year."

"By the time I got done with her," Omarosa (above) tells us of the uppity clerk, "I had the laptops, the printers and ink for a year."

-Why reality star Omarosa had a bitch of a time getting a clerk at an electronics store to redeem a valid coupon for 50 percent off a laptop.

-Why William Sanderson, who plays Sheriff Bud Dearborne on the hit HBO series True Blood, has an aversion to discussing the show’s stunts and special effects.

-Why Ralph Carter, who played impoverished Michael Evans on Good Times, didn’t need to get a call from TV mogul Norman Lear to know he’d landed the role on that groundbreaking ’70s sitcom.

-Why financier T. Boone Pickens - who’s worth an estimated $3 billion – wants to make July 8 an annual celebration of America’s independence from foreign oil.

-Why jazz-piano great Ellis Marsalis‘ kids - Wynton and Branford Marsalis among them – had virtually no interest in jazz as teenagers.

-Why Merlin star Anthony Head – who played Ruper Giles in the ’90s TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer – has no intention of bringing his character to the big screen unless original writer Joss Whedon is at the helm.

‘Buffy’ Star Anthony Head: ‘I Love the Idea of a Buffy Movie’

As yet another sign that the vampire rage shows no signs of abating, Buffy Summers’ British mentor may be coming to a Cineplex near you.

Anthony Head, who played Rupert Giles in the TV version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, says he’d sign on in a flash for the planned big-screen remake of the 1992 flick.

CAPTION: "It's just very strange that anyone would think of doing it without him," Anthony (above) tells us of a Joshless Buffy reboot.

"It's just very strange that anyone would think of doing it without him," Anthony (above) tells us of a Joshless Buffy reboot.

He only asks that Joss Whedon, who wrote the script for the original film and later developed the series that ran from 1997 to 2003, helm the project.

“I love the idea of a Buffy movie. I think it’s about time,” he tells Mr. Media host Bob Andelman.

“I’m not sure about the idea of it being done without Joss Whedon. In fact, I’m absolutely clear that it shouldn’t be done without Joss Whedon.

“It’s Joss’ baby. And everything that was right about the show – and for me really didn’t work in the original movie – everything that was right was Joss,” continues Anthony, who currently plays King Uther in the NBC series Merlin.

“Because he was young and he didn’t have much of a voice in the original movie.

“If he was involved, I would leap at the chance at doing something again with him.”
