BlogTalkRadio Recent Show Highlights

Critically acclaimed actor Antonio Banderas catches up with The Movie Geeks United and chats about his remarkable film career (Shrek, The Mask of Zorro, Once Upon a Time in Mexico) and his new film The Skin I Live In, which is written and directed by the legendary Pedro Almodovar.  Peter Bradshaw, a film critic for The Guardian, described Banderas’ role in The Skin I live In as a “wonderfully charismatic leading man; Almodóvar has found in him what Hitchcock found in Cary Grant. He is stylish, debonair, but with a chilling touch of determination and menace.”

Fitsmiformoms features a special episode that includes a lively conversation with esteemed three-term former NYC mayor Ed Koch.  In this episode, Ed discusses his new book for kids Eddie Shapes Up and how his overweight childhood inspired and influenced the idea to write a children’s health book, and what he hopes the book can achieve.

The Matty Ps Radio Happy Hour features a hot show that includes a visit from stars of the hit television show The Girls Next Door, Kristina & Karissa Shannon.  Hugh Hefner’s infamous ex-girlfriends discuss their time on the show and what they have moved on to since appearing in Season 6.

Host Charmaine Bassett: The Lady Is a Media Champ

Just in case you’re wondering (as we were), Charmaine Bassett is no relation to Angela Bassett. But that doesn’t mean she’s any less entertainment savvy than the leading lady who played Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do with It. Currently the host of Lady Charmaine Live here on BlogTalkRadio, Charmaine—who tells us, “I was called an ugly duckling until I reached high school”—has appeared in print and broadcast ads for companies ranging from Dove to FedEx to Radio Shack. She also had a role in the 1987 flick The Principal, starring Lou Gossett Jr. and Jim Belushi. And along the way, she worked as an entertainment reporter for CBS Radio, and DJ’d for KHYL-FM in Sacramento, Calif., KDIA-AM in Vallejo, Calif., and KGRM-FM in Grambling, La. Now settled in Sacramento, Charmaine, along with her hubby Joseph, pastors the Spirit of Excellence Christian Center. On that holy note, please put your hands together for this week’s SoundBits subject, Lady Charmaine…

Tell us two things listeners would be surprised to learn about you?

I was a guest on The Tyra Banks Show in 2005, and a contestant on The Price is Right in 2009. And in 2004, I had a near-death experience when I suffered a bowel obstruction and the doctors told me I wasn’t going to live. But thanks be to God, I am here today!

Who’s your broadcasting hero?

Oprah Winfrey.

If you could book any person on earth as a guest on your show, who would it be and why?

SoundBits: Mr. Media, Uncensored (and Hopped up on Dr. Pepper)

In this week’s edition of SoundBits, our weekly feature that spotlights compelling BlogTalkRadio talent, we sit down with Bob Andelman. For more than 20 years, the Mr. Media Interviews host, who hails from St. Petersburg, Fla., has been living up to his moniker. The notable figures he has captured on tape in recent months alone include Kirk Douglas, Billy Bob Thornton and Ally Sheedy. But now it’s Bob’s turn to answer our burning questions.

That’s Mr. Media MAVEN to you.

BlogTalkRadio's own Bob Andelman: That’s Mr. Media MAVEN to you.

Give us a 15-second pitch for your BlogTalkRadio show – why should listeners tune in?

Mr. Media Interviews is all about celebrities and media news- makers making conversation, having a few laughs (usually at my expense) and promoting their latest projects. If it’s not fun, it’s usually over quickly.

Tell us two things listeners would be surprised to learn about you?

I coach girl’s soccer at my daughter’s middle school. And I almost always drink Dr. Pepper during my show.

Who’s your broadcasting hero?

There’s no single person. When I was a teen in the ’70s, I listened to Cousin Brucie on WABC 77 AM and Wolfman Jack on WNBC 66 AM, both in New York. Today, I can’t get through the day without a few minutes of Howard Stern on Sirius.

If you could book any person on earth as a guest on your show, who would it be and why?

My late grandfather, Sam Kaplan. We had so little time together and I’ve got so many, many things I’d like to discuss with him.

As we speak, what are you wearing?

My new Florida Gators sweatshirt.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever done while in the middle of hosting your show?

I interviewed raunchy comedian Lisa Lampanelli while on a break at a religious planners conference that I was covering on assignment for a magazine. The people around me could only hear my end of the con- versation, which was uncharacteristically subdued. Lisa, on the other hand, was letting loose four- and twelve-letter curse words like she was handing out candy at Halloween. The dichotomy was pretty funny.

SoundBits: ‘We WILL Make You Laugh,’ Says ‘Fruit Salad’ Host Pauly

SoundBits, our weekly Q&A with BlogTalkRadio hosts, is back. So hold onto your apples, because today we’re spotlighting the ever-flamboyant Pauly of Fruit Salad (and cyberspace!) fame. Pauly, who hails from Los Angeles, has welcomed a wide variety of top show-biz names, ranging from Olivia Newton-John to Florence Henderson. But now it’s his turn in the hot seat.

Give us a 15-second pitch for your BlogTalkRadio show – why should listeners tune in?

Fruit Salad is, first and foremost, a lot of fun. It’s always classified as “gay,” because I am gay.  But it isn’t necessarily a gay show. We have amazing guests, and we aren’t afraid to ask crazy questions. Plus, we will make you laugh.

Tell us two things listeners would be surprised to learn about you?

I’m older then they usually think. And I’m a serious homebody.

Who’s your broadcasting hero?

As most people would say,  Howard Stern. Howard paved the way for my gener- ation to cross boundaries in media and have a no-holds-barred approach to interviewing, which I try to do.

If you could book any person on earth as a guest on your show, who would it be and why?

Madonna, to ask her questions that haven’t been asked before. And, of course, because I’m a huge fan. I’ve been very lucky with my wish list so far, so let’s hope that continues!

As we speak, what are you wearing?

A t-shirt and shorts with socks. Always socks.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever done while in the middle of hosting your show?

As it has been widely reported, I cried during an interview. And I’ll do it again – guaranteed – if I book Madonna!

BlogTalkRadio brings Idols closer to fans

Moments with Melinda is back tonight on BlogTalkRadio, for its second show in only a few days.

Melinda Doolittle, a semifinalist of last season’s American Idol, the powerhouse singer who attracted a following of admirers, wants to make sure she can reach all her fans.

md.jpgBrought to us by MelindaFan.net, this show aims to bring the American Idol fan favorite from last season a little closer to her fans. When Melinda had dozens of fans waiting on queue to talk to her when she ended her hour long show on Saturday, she promised she would come back soon to talk to those callers she didn’t get to. And three days later, she’s back.

Get your Moments with Melinda tonight at 8pm ET.

Melinda’s appearance on the show will be frequent, as she promises to use the tool to keep in touch with her audience around the globe. This isn’t the first American Idol great we’ve welcomed to the airwaves. Jennifer Hudson’s appearance on Idol Radio Show also had scores of fans waiting to speak to the Oscar-winning Dreamgirl.

Recently, BlogTalkRadio has also welcomed Vote For the Worst to the network. This show was started by a die-hard group of Idol watchers who wanted to take the power of the audience to shape the show into their own hands by starting a website to keep on their favorite contestants, despite their singing ability. These fans aimed to keep certain contestants on the show for their entertainment value, while creating a media phenomenon.

Entire shows, Idol Radio Show as well as Idol Radio Buzz, are dedicated to interviewing and keeping in touch with our favorite Idol contestants.

We welcome any and all fan shows to the network, and love how these let Idol followers join the conversation with their favorite contestants.
