Featured Host: Simon Applebaum of ‘Tomorrow Will Be Televised’

This year, veteran journalist Simon Applebaum celebrates his third decade of covering the TV scene. He’s the producer/host of Tomorrow Will Be Televised, a live twice-weekly show on BlogTalkRadio about where the industry is, and where it’s headed. The program offers breaking news, commentary and, most important, extended interviews with industry movers and shakers.

When asked about his show and the reasons for doing it, Simon shared:

Simon:

"What moves me most is when we can introduce people to networks or programs they didn't know about before," Simon (above) tells us.

“This is a program that gives listeners—the public—direct access to the people responsible for what they watch on TV now, and how they’ll watch and use TV in the future. At the same time, the people who make TV happen get the rare chance to share—at length—how and why they practice their craft with the public.

“The feedback I get suggests that both sides appreciate this opportunity, and that drives me to offer the best program I can week after week.”

Simon launched Tomorrow Will Be Televised in August 2007, while still a senior editor with CableWorld magazine, a media trade publication. The program then moved to BlogTalkRadio in May 2009.

Besides BlogTalkRadio exposure, the program is available as a podcast on iTunes.com, Zune.net and 15 other Web download sites, and earlier this month, started as a featured podcast on Tivo, the popular digital video recorder,

Plus, it’s the first BTR program offered for free to teachers and schools nationwide through the Cable in the Classroom program.

As a journalist, Applebaum is no stranger to the TV industry. He has served as a senior editor/writer for Cablevision, Cable Marketing and Multichannel News. He also was a regular commentator on Tech Live, TechTV’s technology news roundup.

Currently, Applebaum writes a Tomorrow Will Be Televised column every other week for MediaBizBloggers.com, and serves as panel moderator/panelist for TV industry events in the New York area.

Featured Host: Vicky Gorman of “Artist On Demand”

“Starting Artists on Demand for me was about spotlighting my favorite bands, some of which I felt didn’t get the attention they deserved” –Gorman

Vicky Gorman is a 23 year old entrepreneur and the brains behind Artists On Demand.

Artists on Demand Radio came about when Vicky Gorman brought the idea to start a talk radio show
to Nikki Moore, one of the shows other four managers. The inspiration behind it was that their favorite independent bands weren’t getting the recognition they deserved. They started inviting bands and musicians that needed an outlet to share their music and their stories. As they continued to grow, the listeners voiced the idea of having other forms of artists on the show. They now host shows that feature some of today’s hottest celebrities in categories including acting, dance, music, authors, directors, and producers.

For all of you vampire lovers out there, Artists on Demand has recently featured actors from “True Blood” and the latest in the “Twilight Saga: Eclipse.”

“I’m very proud of what we have achieved with Artists on Demand. The team we currently have is giving their best and is really getting the show out there. The sky is the limit!”

When asked about their future goals for the show, Gorman shared “We want to take Artists on Demand to a bigger audience. We want people to recognize that we can bring them opportunities that most radio shows don’t. We enjoy giving the fans one to one time with their favorite celebrities.”

Featured Host: LaDona King, Host of ‘Jobless Talk’

pal“I felt that Jobless Talk could be a great way to impart info to the millions of unemployed Americans who are hungry for information.”

One of the shows that’s rapidly gaining momentum on the BlogTalkRadio network is Jobless Talk with LaDona King (aka Paladinette) of San Diego, Calif. Her hour-long internet radio broadcast tackles an issue that, unfortunately, more and more Americans have been forced to face these past few years: unemployment. Each episode features stories of jobless individuals, while also covering hunting tips, new resources, benefit updates and discussions on what Uncle Sam is doing help.

LaDona is no stranger when it comes to this topic. During her 35 years in the workforce, she has often worked two jobs at time. But in 2007, she lost her long-term position in the sub-prime mortgage industry, and has been struggling ever since to find another solid gig.

LaDona launched her show in April. “I felt that Jobless Talk would be a great way to impart information to the millions of unemployed Americans hungry for work, ” she tells us. LaDona also aims to give listeners a forum where they can tell their stories and have a voice.

In addition to her show on BlogTalkRadio, she has created a website for the unemployed called JoblessUnite that has had nearly 450,000 hits since its launch six weeks ago. http://joblessunite.yolasite.com/
