Introducing the New Chat Room

ChatRoomImageWe are very pleased to announce the release of BlogTalkRadio’s new chat application.  Not only is it full of personalization features such as font size, color, background choice and integrated emoticons, it also includes many useful functional features as well.

These features include:

* Chat transcript history: This is one of the most helpful and most requested upgrades.  To save your chat transcript, click the “Save Message History” icon in the upper right hand corner.  HistoryIconbOnce your show is complete simply click this button and copy/paste the entire chat log into a word or text document.  It’s that simple.

* Additional message functionality: With one click of a user’s name, you will now see a list of several options including the ability to private message in an entirely different window.  As a host and chat room monitor you will also be able to pre-define certain messages such as a reminder to the guests to register, the listener call in number and any regularly used links.

* Video integration: If you are a featured BlogTalkRadio host, you will be able to broadcast your video onto a completely moveable and resizable user window.  Users may then opt into the streaming video by clicking on the video icon next to your name.

* Sharing Images: You can now share images in the chat room by clicking the share image button directly in the chat.  Once you have clicked this button SendImage, another window will open directing you to choose an image from your computer files.  Please note that all participants in the chat room will see the image that you post.

* “Tweet This” and “Share This:” When you chat during your favorite BlogTalkRadio shows, we want to remind you to use the  ‘Tweet This’ and ‘Share This’  icons conveniently located at the bottom of the chat room to post details about the show on your Twitter and Facebook accounts.  This will help you network on behalf of the host and the show.

We hope you will take some time to explore all of the new chat capabilities as a host and a listener on BlogTalkRadio.  We look forward to your feedback as well.  Please email service@blogtalkradio.com if you have any issues or suggestions.

How to Have Your BlogTalkRadio Show Featured

Deb mentioned that some hosts had been asking her about being featured. I would like to clarify the process to request featured shows so we are all on the same page.

As all our esteemed hosts know, BlogTalkRadio is a growing community, a network of hosts and listeners, interacting on a wide variety of topics each day. These shows, these interactive conversations, are all valuable to our community as a whole.

Since we are all putting in such hard work to make our shows the best they can be, I wanted to give you my insider tips, straight from the Features Editor, to help promote your content:

1. Do your part. When submitting a Features Request, it helps to show the PR team what you have already done to promote your show. Have you embedded players on your blog, and sent out bulletins and reminders? What is your guest doing to promote? This shows us that you are as invested in getting the word out as you want us to be.

2. Time is on your side. Give as much notice as possible about your special guest. You wouldn’t promote a lecture, a performance, or a television show only the night before, so why leave your BlogTalkRadio promotion to the last minute? With less than 48 hours notice, there is limited ability to feature. You have been warned. The PR team sometimes receives requests for a show a month ahead of time. Everything is documented and you won’t be forgotten. If you receive a Confirmation email with your request number, there is no need to re-submit the information.

3. Say Cheese. Send us pictures. Even if its a logo from your guest’s site, or a headshot of you, or a picture of your dog. Its helpful to have that visual information at our fingertips, and will reduce the chances we will accidentally promote the wrong Michael Jackson.

4. Confirm. Make sure your guest is going to show up. We understand that things happen that are outside your control, but once we’ve done the promotion and put in the effort, we hope you have put in the effort to deliver the show you promised us and your listeners.

5. Relax. Although the homepage is the most visible way we promote, remember we have many more ways of getting the word out, some of which are not so obvious. Our PR Team does outreach to blogs, sends bulletins on social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace, blasts out show information via Twitter, and works with our PR Agency to spread the word about our great hosts. Please remember we are working hard for you, and that it benefits us both to get the word out about your shows. We are on your side.

6. Make it easy on us. Remember to submit your information directly from our site using our automated Features Request form. You can find it when you are logged in, under MyAccount>Promote. You can request a few different methods of featuring using this form. The PR team is available by email at hostpr@blogtalkradio.com for questions, but it is very difficult to keep track of any Features information that is sent via email. Our developers created an easy-to-use form for us, so please use it!

That’s just a brief taste of how to best request to be featured. Featured spots are limited and we receive many more requests than we can accommodate, but the PR team always does the best they can to promote your content.

We look forward to receiving your requests!

The Features Request Form is born!

Today we have released a new form which will simplify the Featuring process on BlogTalkRadio.

You can find the form when you login and hit the “Promote” tab under “Features Requests.” Or click here.

The form allows hosts to select a segment, describe why it should be featured, input guest information, insert weblinks to promotional materials, and upload photos all in one form.

With this easy-to-use form, you can request to be featured in a few different ways.

  1. Featured On the Homepage scrollbar (upcoming)
  2. Featured in Category (archive)
  3. Considered a Featured Host
  4. Request a segment to consider for Best of BTR

With all these different types of Features Requests in one place, it will be much easier for hosts to submit information directly from their segments, and easier for BlogTalkRadio to keep track and process your requests.

Please check out the form, and try it out! The form has fields for detailed information, but not all fields are required to submit. When you have submitted the information successfully, you will receive a message confirming receipt of your request. Its simple and cuts down on the (digital) paper trail of sending multiple emails.

The Features and Promotion team will always be available at hostpr@blogtalkradio.com to assist, answer questions, and read schedules you are working on. The Features requests, however, will have to be submitted through this form in order to be processed. You’ll have time to transition, but if you try the form, you’ll want to switch right away!

As always, since BlogTalkRadio is a live network, featuring decisions are made according to requests received and daily content. For this reason, BlogTalkRadio is unable to confirm featured slots in advance. Featured spots are limited and BlogTalkRadio has sole discretion about promotion and feature status.

Thanks for hosting in our BlogTalkRadio community! Please email us if you have further questions.
