Because she does such a splendid job of doing so herself, this week’s subject needs no introduction, just as she needs no help enticing would- be fashionistas to tune into her ever-popular show. So without further ado, we shall now (if you’ll pardon the pun) let MissusSmartyPants rip.
Give us a 15-second pitch for your show — why should listeners tune in?
My name is Leslie. I’m also known as MissusSmartyPants, the know- it-all of style! I offer truthful and honest – yet loving – style advice to the fashion forlorn. My show airs Tuesdays at 2 p.m. ET. And I broadcast from my hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Each week I offer positive, practical style advice for women every- where. I help them understand simple principals of dressing well. I explain in layman’s terms how to look more fashionable and slimmer by selecting the right styles for their shapes. The right clothes can make all the difference — and I tell women how to do it!
Tell us two things listeners would be surprised to learn about you?
My listeners know I’m a “girly girl,” so they’d be surprised to know I once worked for a car dealership. Talk about a fish-out-of water experience. (LOL!) I was in an all-male environ- ment where they talked NASCAR and other dirty subjects. Yuck.
They’d also be sur- prised to see me dressed super-casual (like in sweats). I usually dress up for my show. I know that sounds funny, but it gets me in the mood to talk about style and fashion. There’s nothing like a cute pair of earring to perk up a girl’s spirits.
Who’s your broadcasting hero?
Gosh, I love talk radio, but I can’t pick just one.
If you could book any person on earth as a guest on your show, who would it be and why?
I’d like to book Oprah as a guest. I think she’d be like interviewing a girlfriend you didn’t know you had. She’s a real woman with real curves, and I like that. Oprah also inspires women to be their best, and she lets them know they don’t have to be perfect along the way.
As we speak, what are you wearing?
Strange question! What are you wearing? [Editor’s Note: We asked you first.]
I’m dressed for work today. I’m wearing a black/white button-down shirt, black dress pants with a wide black belt, and my favorite red peep-toe pumps and silver hoop earrings. Wearing clothes that make me feel confident sets the tone for the day.
What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever done while in the middle of hosting your show?
I try not to do anything but concentrate on what I’m saying and the topic because I have a passion for fashion. However, I have strayed a bit. For instance, I have:
—Answered personal IMs while a caller was asking a question.
—Let the dog out to pee.
—Made a cup of green tea.
—Cleaned the kitchen counters.
—Pulled weeds in the front yard. (I did that when I called into another host’s show!)
