EDITOR’S NOTE (Nov. 29, 2010): Leslie Nielsen passed away yesterday at age 84 after being admitted to a hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for pneumonia. Below is story from Sept. 18, 2009 about a BlogTalkRadio interview with funnyman’s one-time co-star, Debbie Reynolds.

Though most under-40 moviegoers know Leslie Nielsen as that funnyman from the Naked Gun flicks, he began his career hoping to follow in the footsteps of such heavies as Marlon Brando, Monty Clift and Paul Newman.

But all that changed when co-star Debbie Reynolds encouraged him to tackle an unfamiliar genre.

Interviewed on Movie Addict Headquarters, Debbie recalls how Leslie initially balked at signing on for the 1957 musical rom-com Tammy and the Bachelor.

“Leslie was fresh from New York. He came from The Actors Studio and he thought doing Tammy—a simple little story with a goat and Walter Brennan and Debbie Reynolds—was really corny,” she tells host Betty Jo Tucker.

“He didn’t want Continue reading

Tony Curtis: 1925-2010. A Charmer ‘Til the End (Who Fell in Love with Our Host Live On-Air)

It pains us to report that Tony Curtis, one of the most gifted actors of all time, is gone at age 85.

The screen idol, who suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, passed away at his Nevada home yesterday at the stroke of midnight.

Tony: How we'll always remember him.

Tony: How we'll always remember the silver-screen legend.

A friend of BlogTalkRadio, Tony graced our airwaves twice last year, charming us on both occasions, while making us roar with laughter.

When he dropped in on WordSmitten host Kate Sullivan in March to chat about his memoir, American Prince, Tony began the interview with an admission of his true nature.

“I love life so much that I can’t turn down any of the women that I’ve ever met,” said the Bronx, N.Y.-born actor, who starred in such indelible flicks as Some Like It Hot, Spartacus and (our favorite) The Sweet Smell of Success.

“I’m not being facetious now. I find the company of women Continue reading

Thanks to our ever-inquisitive Movie Addict Headquarters team, we now know what America’s all-time favorite Ingrid Bergman flick is.

And that would be…

In you-know-what with you-know-who.

In you-know-what with you-know-who.

Casablanca.

In conjunction with their special presentation, “Another Look at Ingrid Bergman,” host Betty Jo Tucker and sidekick Jazz Shaw asked film fans and professional critics alike to pick from seven of the Swedish beauty’s big-screen features, as well as the TV film A Woman Called Golda.

Here’s how the voting panned out: Continue reading

Steve Guttenberg to Director Dr. Ravi Godse: Gimme More Close-ups!

Funnyman Steve Guttenberg‘s plea for more screen time came a bit too late.

But Movie Addict Headquarters listeners loved it all the same.

"I know that Ravi and I are going to make more movies together," Steve (above) tells us.

Earlier today on the show, host Betty Jo Tucker was chatting with indy writer-director-actor Dr. Ravi Godse—who’s also a real-life physician—about his new comedy, If It Ain’t Broke, Break It, when a surprise guest called in with some criticism.

That guest, as you may have guessed, was none other than Steve himself, who plays the lead in the flick.

“Ravi, what aren’t I in more close-ups? I should have more close-ups. I don’t know why there aren’t more close-ups of me?” the Police Academy staple raged.

Ravi’s response? Continue reading

Still-Unbetrothed Jennifer Love Hewitt’s New Careers: Singer and Standup Comic?

Jennifer Love Hewitt may not be tying the knot with beau Jamie Kennedy just yet.

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t new experiences in store for the I Know What You Did Last Summer star – like belting out standards and cracking jokes.

CAPTION: "People were standing up, giving her applause and screaming," Jamie (above) tells us of Jennifer's performance. "I've never seen something like that."

"People were standing up, giving her applause and screaming," Jamie (above) tells us of Jennifer's performance. "I've never seen something like that."

That according to Jamie Masada, owner of the The Laugh Factory comedy clubs in Hollywood and Long Beach, Calif.

Interviewed on Movie Addict Headquaters, the impresario recounts how erroneous reports of Jen’s betrothal sprung from his legendary establishment.

“Jamie Kennedy was in the club in Long Beach last Saturday night. And he went two hours and seven minutes. He was amazing. He was getting a standing ovation – over 400 people screaming, telling him how much they love him,” Jamie tells host Betty Jo Tucker.

“And then he starts talking about Jennifer Love Hewitt. And then he brought Jennifer up there. And they went back and forth with each other. They had a little bit of conversation. And Jennifer was very, very funny.

“At that point, all of a sudden, Jamie said, ‘Jennifer is a great singer. She can sing.’ And Jennifer starts singing this beautiful a cappella song.

“And someone from the audience starts screaming, ‘Marry her! Marry her!’ And Jamie – I don’t know if real – kind of like bowed to her.

CAPTION: Jennifer with her funnyman squeeze: No ring just yet.

Jennifer with her funnyman squeeze: No ring for the time being.

“Then Jennifer got up and – she was sitting on the stool – she got up and they started kissing each other on the lips and everything,” he adds of the couple, who met on the set of the CBS series Ghost Whisperer in 2008.

“A lot of people were reporting that that was a proposal of marriage.

“But that was the end of it.”

As for Jen’s newfound talents, Jamie (Masada, that is), thinks she definitely has the chops to expand into the art form he knows best – to say nothing of recording artist.

“I gotta tell you, she was witty, she was funny, her timing was so good.

“And her singing was wonderful.”

Though Jen and Jamie (Kennedy, that is) talked about engagement rumors last month on an Arizona radio show, People magazine reports, ealier today the comedian Tweeted, “There’s a lil rumor going round that i got down on one knee in Long beach. If i was gonna get down on one knee do u think i wud do it in the LBC????… I luv my girl and wen it happens you’ll be the first to know.”
