Jack Nicholson Smackdown? He Could Never Reach Me! Says Bill Duke

Director Bill Duke may be five years younger and six inches taller than Jack Nicholson, but he knows better than to diss The Joker’s beloved L.A. Lakers.

Interviewed on Film Festival Radio, Bill—a longtime L.A. resident—chats about getting away with cheering for visiting teams while perched on the sidelines of the Staples Center alongside other Hollywood heavyweights.

"I prefer ‘team' ball players," Bill (l) tells us vis-à-vis Boston—rather than the L.A. "star dunkers" that Jack (r) adores.

When host Janice Malone asks, “You’re a die-hard team of who— which team is it again?” Bill replies: Continue reading

SoundBits: Steve Shaman Takes Cyberspace by Tropical Storm

That Steve Shaman tags his Earth Frenzy Radio as “Alternative Talk Radio for the Internet” speaks volumes – if you agree that the Internet is nothing but alternative content. Then again, considering that Steve’s recent guests have ranged from M*A*S*H star Sally Kellerman to financial astrologer Mahendra Sharma to comedian Sally Franz to Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Edward Humes, it seems safe to say that his tagline is well-deserved. What’s more, Steve, who makes his home in Feliciana Hill Country, Louisiana, about 50 miles north of Baton Rouge, is himself a model of diversity. The U.S. Navy veteran and former church missionary currently works as an entertainment publisher and environmental journalist. So as you’re no doubt intrigued by this point, we’ll get right to Steve’s third degree.

Give us a 15-second pitch for your BTR show — why should listeners tune in?

We talk about topics that venture beyond the mainstream media. Our motto is to both inform and captiv- ate our listening audience.

Tell us two things listeners would be surprised to learn about you?

I’m a rancher who raises and breeds tropical birds on a 16-acre sprawl. I lived abroad for two years in the tropics of Costa Rica.

Who’s your broadcasting hero?

Art Bell, founder and longtime host of the paranormal-themed radio program Coast to Coast AM. He’s considered an icon in the broad- cast industry.

If you could book and person on earth as a guest on your show, who would it be and why?

Jack Nicholson would be my first choice. I consider him a giant among entertainers. My second choice would be former President Jimmy Carter, who is a great statesman and humanitarian.

CAPTION: …and letting it shine back home in the Big Easy.

…and letting it shine back home in the Big Easy.

As we speak what are you wearing?

Sweat pants and a T-shirt. (If I were wearing nothing, would you still want to know?)

[Editor’s Note: We refuse to answer on the grounds that we might incrim- inate ourselves.]

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever done while in the middle of hosting your show?

Use the restroom. (Thank God for cordless headsets!)
