Carl Davis Carl Davis is a legendary producer and A&R man. He began his radio career typing play-lists for popular Chicago disc jockey Al Benson in 1955. He quickly earned a reputation as a “hitpicker.” His success led him up the ladder where eventually Davis created a Chicago sound with upbeat arrangements backed by musicians and arrangers known as the Chicago Soul Sound. His credits include working with such talents Curtis Mayfield, The Chi-lites, Jackie Wilson, Jerry Butler, Gene Chandler, Tyrone Davis and many others.
