Micky Dolenz:  In 1991, the pop icon recalled auditioning for NBC’s The Monkees. “I don’t consider myself a drummer, but I do consider myself a guitar player,” he told host Robin Milling. “I had to quickly learn to play drums—and certainly played adequately for what I had to do for the band’s light pop rhythms.”

BlogTalkRadio’s own Justin Guarini goes head to head this Saturday with the likes of Monkee Micky Dolenz, 21 Jump Street‘s Ricard Grieco and – yes, the godfather of funk – George Clinton on Gone Country 3.

Naturally, you’ll want to tune into the CMT reality show – as the Season 1 American Idol runner-up will unveil his country-music chops for the first time ever (well, publicly, at least).

Justin tells today’s edition of TVGuide.com that “country singing is more pop than it has been in a long time.”

“[It’s] not necessarily the twangy phonographs your grandmother used to listen to. It really is pop music, and there’s a lot of crossover going on,” he says.

In addition to plugging his BlogTalkRadio show, the curly-topped crooner also dishes about Season 8 of American Idol:

“Hollywood Week is going to be filled with a lot more drama than we’re used to. There are rumors of the contestants being put in the same house again, so I wonder if they’re going to really pump up the drama.”
