I Think We Have Something Here

Yesterday, afternoon I watched the number of shows in our program guide increase dramatically. I said to myself “I think we have something here.”

I knew that the concept of Blogtalkradio made a ton of sense and filled a void in the blogosphere, but I must admit I wasn’t prepared for a few things. One, I have been quite surprised (pleasantly I might add) to see the large international interest in BTR. In just one week and NO advertising at all, we have attracted hosts from more than 25 countries. Interestingly we have seen significant interest from many Spanish speaking countries.

Secondly, the feedback we have received via email from the hosts themselves during their shows has been terrific. We spent considerable time insuring that the platform worked prior to our beta launch. We also spent a lot of time making sure that the website was easy to understand, not cluttered and provided lots of tools for the users. Well, the feedback we have heard in this regard is equally positive. I want to thank Bob, Jaime and others for their help in putting this together.

MySpace and Fashionistas
During my show last night, I heard from the first of the “Myspace” hosts. His name is Mathew Fashion and purports to be “the” Hollywood person in the know. Though I had never heard of Matthew before last evening, it is clear that the man has quite a following. I can also say with a high degree of confidence that Matthew and I have very little in common. But that is what I love about BlogTalkRadio. Diversity in a community is one thing – but true interaction between diverse and differing individuals…now that is magic.

You see, as I said from my very first post on this site, we want to attract interesting, engaging, innovative hosts looking for a platform to share their vision, their passion and their point of view. We want our audience to have options and to decide for themselves what they want and do not want to listen to. In a few weeks, I hope the users will decide what’s interesting and provocative dialogue and what is useless talk. We will the power in your hands to do so.

So let me say: “Welcome aboard, Matthew.” As you told me in your call last night, BlogTalkRadio is the perfect platform to reach out to your audience. I couldn’t agree more!!

Site Updates
Now that we have been “live” for just about one week, we are already working on a number of things to enhance the experience. These include better search tools, user generated ratings, rolling out our rev/share advertising program (more on this to follow in my next post), etc.

Just a reminder that all of our hosts can track their number of listeners in the host dashboard – under segment archives.

Finally, we are working hard to get the podcast download working. Your blogshows prior to the upgrade will not be saved, so be aware.

And a Last Word…
Focus on content, prepare your shows in advance, have something interesting to say and most importantly enjoy the experience.
