Tallying Up 2009 on BlogTalkRadio

Going through the archives of 2009 on BlogTalkRadio and scanning the lists of guests is like taking a walk through history.

We have the biggest names in almost every sphere on the airwaves in the vault here, from Oscar-winning directors, to reality TV stars, to boyleOlympic athletes, to bestselling authors, and even the President of the United States.

Here are some of the most noteworthy moments on BlogTalkRadio this year:

On January 26th, Danny Boyle, the Oscar-winning director of Slumdog Millionaire,  joined SAJA to talk about the film’s four Golden Globe wins and ten Academy Award nominations.  And we all know how that turned out.  Slumdog Millionaire went on to make history by winning eight out of ten including Best Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Editing, Cinematography, Sound Mixing, Score and Song.  (The man behind Slumdog‘s music, A.R. On February 18th, beloved poet and bestselling author Dr. Maya Angelou joined Judy Joy Jones to talk about her work, including her Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress in Roots, and how she became the second poet in history to recite her original work at the Presidential Inauguration.

On March 9th, Taylor Lautner, who stars in the Twilight saga as the hunky teen-turned-werewolf Jacob Black, chatted with Stardish Radio and fans from the set of New Moon in Vancouver.  The 90-minute special featuring Taylor was brought to us by Walmart, who along with Twilight’s studio, Summit Entertainment, engaged millions of fans online surrounding the March 21 DVD release of the film.

jimmyOn April 2nd, SNL comedian and newly-minted talk show host Jimmy Fallon talked about his gig replacing Conan O’Brien as host of NBC’s Late Night and his excessive perspiration problem with World Talk Live.  The hilarious interview was then picked up as a headline story on People.com entitled “Jimmy Fallon Has No Control Over His Glands.”

On May 8th, in an one-on-one exclusive interview, The First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, joined the DoD’s Bloggers Roundtable in discussion with The Pentagon Channel‘s Liz Murray about military family issues.On May 30th, beloved Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola, joined the Movie Geeks to discuss his newest film, Tetro, starring Vincent Gallo, and his legendary career.*Jul 12 - 00:05*

On August 19th, President Barack Obama joined 40 Minutes for Health Reform with religious leaders for a discussion of this critical issue and how it will impact our communities.

Bill Cosby started his own BlogTalkRadio show, in tandem with his Cinch channel, as part of his social media presence.  On October 19th, he broadcasted live from a virtual town hall meeting in NYC to promote his new hip hop and current issues album, Bill Cosby Presents the Cosnarati: State of EmergencyOn Cinch, Cosby provides audio updates, musings, and anecdotes with followers and fans.

On December 8th, The FlyLady, Marla Cilley, celebrated ten years of FLYing with her community on her BlogTalkRadio show.  FlyBabies from around the world called in live to share their heartwarming testimonials and how FlyLady has impacted their lives over the years.

In addition, in 2009, companies and groups such as Allstate, Ford, PepsiCo, and Internet Evolution joined BlogTalkRadio for their branded live broadcasting and audio needs.

From a network perspective, this year was a big growth year for BlogTalkRadio. We have had 57,686,910 total listens to date and more than 30,000 hosts have conducted shows on BlogTalkRadio this year, which is up 130% from 2008. and since our launch in fall of 2006, we have hosted close to half a million shows.  Thanks to all our hosts, listeners, and fans!
