SoundBits: ‘We WILL Make You Laugh,’ Says ‘Fruit Salad’ Host Pauly

SoundBits, our weekly Q&A with BlogTalkRadio hosts, is back. So hold onto your apples, because today we’re spotlighting the ever-flamboyant Pauly of Fruit Salad (and cyberspace!) fame. Pauly, who hails from Los Angeles, has welcomed a wide variety of top show-biz names, ranging from Olivia Newton-John to Florence Henderson. But now it’s his turn in the hot seat.

Give us a 15-second pitch for your BlogTalkRadio show – why should listeners tune in?

Fruit Salad is, first and foremost, a lot of fun. It’s always classified as “gay,” because I am gay.  But it isn’t necessarily a gay show. We have amazing guests, and we aren’t afraid to ask crazy questions. Plus, we will make you laugh.

Tell us two things listeners would be surprised to learn about you?

I’m older then they usually think. And I’m a serious homebody.

Who’s your broadcasting hero?

As most people would say,  Howard Stern. Howard paved the way for my gener- ation to cross boundaries in media and have a no-holds-barred approach to interviewing, which I try to do.

If you could book any person on earth as a guest on your show, who would it be and why?

Madonna, to ask her questions that haven’t been asked before. And, of course, because I’m a huge fan. I’ve been very lucky with my wish list so far, so let’s hope that continues!

As we speak, what are you wearing?

A t-shirt and shorts with socks. Always socks.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever done while in the middle of hosting your show?

As it has been widely reported, I cried during an interview. And I’ll do it again – guaranteed – if I book Madonna!

Heath’s Joker Nothing Like Jack’s, ‘Dark Knight’ Producer Hints to BTR

Don’t speak Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger’s names in the same breath – at least not when talking to “The Dark Knight” executive producer Michael Uslan about the actors’ portrayal of the Joker.

Uslan tells BlogTalkRadio’s Bob “Mr. Media” Andelman that the late Ledger’s dark portray of the be-loathed Batman villain will live in stark contrast that of Nicholson’s clownish turn.

“You can’t re-do things that were already done,” Uslan says when asked how Ledger stacks up to Nicholson, who originated the Joker role in 1989’s “Batman.” “You have to find new and inventive ways to do them.”

In addition to dishing about the highly anticipated “Dark Knight,” which opens July 18, Uslan also spoke about his work with another comic-book based flick, Will Eisner’s “The Spirit,” which hits theatres in December – and proved to be an even more protracted project.

“I thought nothing I would ever do in life would take longer than the 10 years it took to bring a dark and serious Batman to the screen. And here we are, 14 years out,” he says of “The Spirit.”

When Mr. Media brought up the public’s concerns that director Frank Miller couldn’t do justice to Eisner’s vision, Uslan assured him otherwise.

“Frank knew this had to be as daring and innovative and pushing-the-envelope as Will Eisner would have wanted because that’s the way Will did everything he ever created,” he said.

Not only that, but when the movie opens, Uslan promised, “I will look the wonderful and lovely Ann Eisner [Will’s widow] in the eye and say, ‘Here’s everything I promised Will.’”

AOL and BlogTalkRadio Create Daily Hot Seat Radio Show

BlogTalkRadio’s Media Lizzy to Host Show Based on AOL Political Machine Blog

BlogTalkRadio (www.blogtalkradio.com), the first citizen broadcasting network, and AOL News (news.aol.com), have created a daily online talk radio show focusing on AOL News’ Hot Seat question of the day. The show, called AOL Hot Seat Question of the Day, will be available to listeners on BlogTalkRadio, (www.blogtalkradio.com/AOL-Hot-Seat), and AOL’s Political Machine blog, (news.aol.com/political-machine). BlogTalkRadio’s Media Lizzy will host the daily program along with a Political Machine Hot Seat blogger of the day. Listeners can call in and join the conversation.

Hot Seat is AOL News’ syndicated political widget featuring daily political poll questions from some of the biggest political bloggers across the political spectrum, including The Huffington Post, Time’s Mark Halperin, Slate’s John Dickerson, Politico, Crooks & Liars, Power Line, The Atlantic’s Andrew Sullivan and Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey. The questions address current political issues and events as a way to stimulate a dialogue between voters, pundits and politicians.

“The Hot Seat polls bring together various opinions from syndicated content across the Internet and provides an outlet for the public to discuss breaking political news,” said Coates Bateman, Executive Producer, AOL’s Political Machine. “By adding the BlogTalk Radio component, we are providing users with additional insight into the Hot Seat blog posts.”

“As politics is the most popular content category on BlogTalkRadio, we are happy to partner with AOL News and its outstanding Political Machine blog,” said Alan Levy, CEO and co-founder of BlogTalkRadio. “John McCain, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama’s campaign have all utilized BlogTalkRadio to communicate their messages to the masses and interact with voters on a one-on-one basis. This agreement with AOL News furthers BlogTalkRadio’s commitment to inform the public about this year’s presidential race and encourage listeners to lend their voice and share their opinions on the election and future of the United States.”

In addition to AOL Hot Seat Question of the Day, Elizabeth “Media Lizzy” Blackney also hosts BlogTalkRadio programs Heading Right Radio and The Media Lizzy Show. She is a political communications strategist, author of Sex, Lies & Politricks, and the founding publisher of TMK Books.
