BlogTalkRadio Host of the Week: Alfred McComber from “Code Red Radio”

By Christina Blodgett

In our continuing effort to spotlight more members of the BlogTalkRadio community, we will be posting more frequent interviews with hosts along with tips and techniques from members of our community and the BTR Team.  We look forward to communicating more with our community in the days to come.

In each edition of our Host E-newsletter, I spotlight a BlogTalkRadio “Host of the Month” and interview this host on my show “In the Limelight.”  This month, we spotlight Alfred McComber, host of the “Code Red! Radio Show.”  Code Red! features in-depth, top quality interviews with the most knowledgeable and experienced high level government officials from homeland security, law enforcement, fire & rescue, and emergency preparedness as well as private sector safety and security professionals.

ajm-cr-hostAlfred has hosted Code Red! since September 2004.  Before joining theBlogTalkRadio Host community in 2008, Code Red! was available on Fox News Radio’s local affiliate station in Washington, DC as well as on Federal News Radio in the nation’s capital.  I had a great conversation with Alfred and enjoyed learning more about his show and the unique perspective and extensive experience he brings to the BlogTalkRadio platform.  Since 1983, Alfred has been heavily involved in law enforcement, high-level dignitary protection, search & rescue and emergency preparedness response operations.  Past featured guests of the Code Red! radio show have included W. Craig Fugate, Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Dennis Rubin, Fire Chief of the Washington,DC Fire & EMS Department and coming up this week, Judge Glenda Hatchett from the syndicated television show series, “Judge Hatchett.”

BlogTalkRadio’s Facebook and Twitter Integration

facebookby Alan Levy
CEO, BlogTalkRadio

We’re excited to roll out some cool new features that will help our tens of thousands of radio hosts syndicate their shows into leading social networks.

twitterIn our view, our job has many elements. First, we enable any individual, company
or organization to host a live online radio show. We host close to 1,000 broadcasts every day. There is no cost to host or listen to shows on BlogTalkRadio. However, we do offer premium services for a more robust hosting experience.  Second, shortly after the show is completed, we automatically create podcasts that are hosted and stored on our site, and can be easily downloaded into iTunes, RSS, etc.  Finally, we provide a series of syndication tools so that the content produced on the network can be easily syndicated online.

Our platform sits side by side with Facebook, Twitter, Ning, MySpace and many other popular social communities.

Effective today, our hosts can elect to have their shows automatically notify and update their Facebook and Twitter communities.  You can watch screencast tutorials here in our Learning Center to learn how to use these features.

For Facebook, our hosts will be able to easily create events, update their status to let their friends know they are broadcasting live and, finally, after the show is over, the archive will be embedded directly into their status update.

For Twitter, tweets will be automatically sent from your Twitter profile when the show is live, and then again when the archived show is available.

We’re excited about these enhancements and look forward to your comments, feedback and suggestions.  Please write us at service@blogtalkradio.com.

Best,

Alan

Introducing the New Chat Room

ChatRoomImageWe are very pleased to announce the release of BlogTalkRadio’s new chat application.  Not only is it full of personalization features such as font size, color, background choice and integrated emoticons, it also includes many useful functional features as well.

These features include:

* Chat transcript history: This is one of the most helpful and most requested upgrades.  To save your chat transcript, click the “Save Message History” icon in the upper right hand corner.  HistoryIconbOnce your show is complete simply click this button and copy/paste the entire chat log into a word or text document.  It’s that simple.

* Additional message functionality: With one click of a user’s name, you will now see a list of several options including the ability to private message in an entirely different window.  As a host and chat room monitor you will also be able to pre-define certain messages such as a reminder to the guests to register, the listener call in number and any regularly used links.

* Video integration: If you are a featured BlogTalkRadio host, you will be able to broadcast your video onto a completely moveable and resizable user window.  Users may then opt into the streaming video by clicking on the video icon next to your name.

* Sharing Images: You can now share images in the chat room by clicking the share image button directly in the chat.  Once you have clicked this button SendImage, another window will open directing you to choose an image from your computer files.  Please note that all participants in the chat room will see the image that you post.

* “Tweet This” and “Share This:” When you chat during your favorite BlogTalkRadio shows, we want to remind you to use the  ‘Tweet This’ and ‘Share This’  icons conveniently located at the bottom of the chat room to post details about the show on your Twitter and Facebook accounts.  This will help you network on behalf of the host and the show.

We hope you will take some time to explore all of the new chat capabilities as a host and a listener on BlogTalkRadio.  We look forward to your feedback as well.  Please email service@blogtalkradio.com if you have any issues or suggestions.
