To borrow a locution from the movie trailers, Diana Estill is Deedee Divine.
The question that remains, however, is, Who the hell is Deedee Divine?
For one, she (along with alter-ego Diana) is the author of Deedee Divine’s Totally Skewed Guide To Life, which has been selected as this week’s Blurb! Book of the Week by hosts Sally Shields and Dr. Kent.
In this outrageous survival guide, the native Texan ex- plains, among other things, why “family that doesn’t kill you makes you strong- er,” why women won’t read maps, and why men should never use “the B-word” (budget).
Prior to embarking on a career as a full-time humorist, Diana spent 12 years as a journal- ist, penning funny columns for the Dallas Morning News, Washington Post and Miami Herald, among other leading publications.
She and her hubby currently live in north Texas with “one overly domineering house cat.” The couple has four children and four grandchildren (some of whom may be overly domineering too, though we don’t like starting idle rumors, so forget we said anything).
Each Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET, Sally and Dr. Kent review not books them- selves but prerecorded pitches from five writers whose literary works are hot off the presses.
And each scribe gets a mere three minutes to convince the hosts that theirs is the book worth cracking. But if they succeed, they capture the coveted Book of the Week title.
That means Sally and Dr. Kent post it prominently on the Blurb! website – just as they did with Diana’s book.
To top it all off, the winning author gets a guest spot on the show, during which to pitch his or her book live to listeners worldwide.
