With apologies to Chandler Bing, could there be a better time to begin again?
Indeed not – what with defaults, foreclosures and bankruptcies running rampant.
That’s why it’s fitting that Blurb! hosts Sally Shields and Dr. Kent have selected Chris Missick‘s Begin Again: Securing Your Fresh Financial Start with Consumer Bankruptcy as Blurb! Book of the Week.
“In the book I set four simple goals for the reader: Learn the Process, Dispel the Myths, Lose the Fear and Begin Again,” says Chris, a Los Angeles bankruptcy attorney, and U.S. Army veteran who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
“Part self-help book, part legal primer, Begin Again can help people use the law to change their lives.”
And Chris knows whence he speaks – having seen this subject matter unfold in his own family.
“When I was ten years old, my parents had to file for bankruptcy after their successful business suffered in a recession,” he says.
Also getting a BTR thumbs-up this week is Derrick Hayes. After seeing last week’s winners posted here on the BTR blog, the motivational speaker from Columbus, Ga., emailed Sally to say he’d been inspired to pen a promotional acronym for Blurb!
And that acronym would be: Building Listeners Up with Resourceful Books.
Every Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET, Sally and Dr. Kent review not books themselves but prerecorded pitches from five writers whose literary works are hot off the presses.
And each scribe gets a mere three minutes to convince the hosts that theirs is the book worth cracking. But if they succeed, they capture the coveted Book of the Week title.
That means Sally and Dr. Kent post it prominently on the Blurb! website – just as they did with Chris’ book.
To top it all off, the winning author gets a guest spot on the show, during which to pitch his or her book live to listeners worldwide – just as Chris will appear on tonight’s show.
