In the early days of Blogtalkradio, I posted about how this platform would focus on the have-not’s as opposed to the have’s. I was referring to the types of bloggers we would attract to the platform and that as far as I was concerned, if we built a platform that was appealing and valuable to the masses as opposed to the privileged few than we would be successful.
So here we are, one year and more than 18,000 broadcasts later, my original thesis turned out to be accurate. To date, more than 8,000 people have registered to be Blogtalkradio hosts. While we are fortunate to have such notable bloggers such as Mark Frauenfelder of BoingBoing as a host, for the most part, our hosts are not A list bloggers.
So, I was so pleased to see that Tris Hussey posted
about his most recent Blogtalkradio show.
and I quote, ” This week Jeremiah Owyang was our special guest, but no sooner did the conversation get rolling (we started with Hitachi), than did Chris Brogan call in (he pinged me on Skype first and I invited him)! Wait, the fun doesn’t stop there. As we’re getting into talking about Facebook, Teresa Valdez Klein calls in! I guess she couldn’t wait, because she’s our guest next week”.
Tris, while perhaps not YET an A-lister, understands social media. He has embraced this platform and for that I am quite pleased. Tris can engage his audience in a live manner, requires only a phone or skype connection to broadcast, can talk with 5 other friends at the same time and his entire conversation gets archived 15 minutes after his live broadcast complete with RSS feeds. Oh yes, I forgot to mention that it’s free.
As a firmly entrenched “have-not”, I welcome the “have’s” with open arms.
We won’t bite. Trust me.
