The last 24 hours have been a whirlwind, I have had a glimpse into the cultural phenonenon which we refer to as Groundhog Day. Dale D’Alessio and I broadcasted 4 hours of live feed from Punxatawney Pennsylvania with Sam Ettaro and the Punxy Boys from TheRealPhil.net.
We had the pleasure of speaking with a tremendous amount of people, one of the biggest honors was getting to speak with Bill Bailey who was Punxatawney Phil’s handler for over 20 years. This was a man I saw on TV every year pulling Phil from his Groundhog Hole on the morning of Groundhog Day. Bill was a happy guy who expressed the fact that he was glad to be a spectator this year and had been honored by his years of service to Punxatawney Phil.
Then we had the pleasure of speaking to two weathermen, one from Channel 10 Joe Murdo, and the other from Channel 4 an ABC affiliate. How cool is it to talk to a weathman on a day where someone else is getting the spotlight on the weather forecast.
We spoke with many people from The Secretary of Tourism’s Office and of course, alot of people in the crowd just there for the festivities, one of them being Free-A-Store-Us-Rex formally known as Scott MacDonald, Scott auctioned off the right for someone to rename him for one year, the winning bidder Freebeestore.com bid $37,000.01 and 10% of that money Scott is delivering to an orphanage in Thailand that is the home for victims of the AIDS epidemic. Scott has agreed to come on our show in the next few days and we will keep you posted on that.
Many of the gentlemen from The Inner Circle were kind enough to get on the air with us and we had some fun playing some Groundhog Trivia with these fellows and they took it all in good stride.
We want to thank Sam Etarro and the Punxy Boy’s for inviting us into their world for a day to allow us to broadcast to the world the impact that Punxatawney Phil has had on so many people’s lives and for allowing us the opportunity to take a step into the cultural phenomenon for the very first time.
You can hear the show’s here.
